> Again, I feel I must ask-- what have you guys and gals been paying attention to the last eight years?

It seems that you also missed what Neil DeGrasse Tyson told about how the republicans were becoming the ignorant party.

> **[Neil deGrasse Tyson on Science Literacy (Part Two) | Moyers & Company |...](https://billmoyers.com/episode/neil-degrasse-tyson-on-science-literacy/)**
>
> Bill talks with the astrophysicist about why science literacy is critical to the future of our democracy, economy and standing in the world.

> [@](#):
>
> BILL MOYERS: Let’s talk politics for a moment.
>
> NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON: Go for it.
>
> BILL MOYERS: All right. According to the Pew Research Center, back in 2009, a comfortable majority of Republicans accepted human evolution as a fact. But now, a plurality rejects it. So I ask you, politics can trump science, can’t it?
>
> NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON: Well, in a free, elected democracy, of course. You vote who you want on your school board. There is no provision in the constitution for the government to establish what’s taught in schools. That’s all relegated to the states. Hence, we speak state to state about what’s in their science textbook versus another.
>
> And so that’s the country we’ve all sort of bought into, if you will, or born into. I think it’s a self-correcting phenomenon. Nobody wants to die, okay? So we all care about health. But above all else, among the Republicans I know, especially Republicans, nobody wants to die poor, okay?
>
> So educated Republicans know the value of innovations in science and technology for the thriving of an economy and business and industry. They know this. \* If you put something that is not science in a science classroom, pass it off as science, then you are undermining an entire enterprise that was responsible for creating the wealth that we have come to take for granted in this country. So we’re already fading economically. If this, if that trend continues, some Republican is going to wake up and say, “Look guys, we got to split these two. We have to. Otherwise, we will doom ourselves to poverty.” And so I see it as a self-correcting, I don’t know when it’ll happen, but they know. \*\*
>
> BILL MOYERS: So what do you think’s at stake? What’s at stake–
>
> NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON: What’s at–
>
> BILL MOYERS: --for democracy?
>
> NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON: Oh no, it’s not, the democracy will still be here. It’s a matter of we’re just voting into office people who don’t understand how to make, how money gets generated. In, you know, since the Industrial Revolution and before, we have known the value of innovation in science and technology and its impact on an economy.
>
> If that begins to go away, it’s a different country. We’ll still call ourselves America, but we won’t lead the world economically. And that’s a choice we are making as an elective democracy.

- Like George Will, although he dabbled in a bit of climate change denial too.

\*\* Unfortunately, most demonstrated that they do not know and so we head into years of things getting a bit darker.

A video to remind all about what the Republican leaders were doing about climate change, and now they got the President as supporter of that willful ignorance.

George Will is a pompous turd and a dime-store Bill Buckley, but my hat’s off to him for the excellent use of the word “remarkable.”

Just like Herbert Lom’s dead-pan line about Peter Sellers in A SHOT IN THE DARK, the 1963 “Inspector Clouseau” film. Funniest line in the movie.

Commissioner Dreyfus: “Clouseau is…a _remarkable_ man.”

He convinced himself that he was the smartest conservative in the room (well, him and his fellow #nevertrumpers, anyway), and begun talking down to his readership while advocating for the same types of candidates who were your regular establishment types that he once, at least, seemed to reject. He was ready to go, and did go, full “I told you so”, until Trump won. And instead of admitting that he was wrong and that perhaps he wasn’t the smartest conservative in the room, he’s doubled down on his histrionics.

I think you never saw me telling George how dumb he was in a few climate change threads. In any case the point was that indeed not all Republicans think it is a good idea to follow Trump to the brink.

For me, the big takeaway, even bigger than Trump pretending that our cities were still in _Escape From New York_ mode, was what he said about where America’s wealth goes, that keeps it out of the hands of hardworking middle class white people where it belongs.

Trump said it all goes overseas, which is bullshit, of course: it’s all going to the top 0.1%.

“America First” is a big “look over there!” to distract the voters while the Koch brothers and the DeVos family and the like continue to plunder America for their own benefit. It’ll probably work, too.

It was real.

We haven’t had a president cross the isles to be elected the way Trump has since Reagan.
Dems, Republicans, Independents, Whites, Blacks, Hispanics Blue collar Union people, Small Business owners, … The People Elected him.

We didn’t hear him say I, My, I, I, I, My… ala Obama all speech long.
God was openly invoked, appreciated, acknowledged, and invited too!

He finally called a spade a spade . " Radical Islam" The words not uttered in the last 8 years.

He spoke as America.

Thank You God, and Thank You President Trump.

It was between Kennedy’s and Johnson’s addresses in length. Perfect.

Buy American and hire American is a mindset. It’s indicative of the “America First” platform on which he ran, and sure beats give away Trillions overseas or Pay off Iran today so they can build nukes tomorrow. As well as the build roads in Afghanistan to bomb and rebuild them which has been going on the last 15 years.

Take care of U.S., so we can again become the beacon of light to humanity and reach for the stars, while we develop humanity serving tech.

Good idea, and a welcome change of policy/outlook.

The Middle East I expect him to unleash the dogs of war on. ISIS/Al-Quadea\_IS\_ whatever they are named today should not be shipping Iraqi oil in convoys through Turkey with,… while they build hotels. I’m betting untying out Navy and Air Forces hands in cooperation with the Russians who don’t want cheap stolen oil on the market ( Neither do we, we EXPORT IT NOW) will crush the funding of alot of this. Once Europe wakes up and elects Le-Pen and the EU crumbles it gets smoother. The Saudi’s are another huge problem, what is to be done time will tell. I suspect plans are TSK
