Based on the description, it’s almost certainly a fisher. This animal is sometimes referred to as a “fisher cat,” but a fisher is actually a member of the weasel family and is not related to the felines.
We had one come through the woods by my house a few years ago. It screamed at dusk and in the night for a few weeks, then apparently moved on. A few of the neighbors’ cats disappeared around that time, too.
I have a friend who lives a few miles away. He’s heard the screaming more recently, and lost about 10 chickens around the same time.
A friend just shot a fisher in his chicken coop after it had killed a rooster. Nasty looking creatures, you don’t want Fifi or fluffy messing with one.
I listened to one of the files from the original download site - I just got a stupid thing about winning some contest, but Xed out so it couldn’t really do much to me.
I agree, it sounds very close to the fisher cat that was mentioned (I looked up the sound and it’s very close)
That would freak me out.
Coyotes are really creepy when they are together and howl and make noise when they get a kill. It chills the blood. I heard them a lot last summer and it’s very unnerving.
Hannibal Lecter: Then something woke you, didn’t it? Was it a dream? What was it?
Clarice Starling: I heard a strange noise.
Hannibal Lecter: What was it?
Clarice Starling: It was… screaming. Some kind of screaming, like a child’s voice.
Hannibal Lecter: What did you do?
Clarice Starling: I went downstairs, outside. I crept up into the barn. I was so scared to look inside, but I had to.
Hannibal Lecter: And what did you see, Clarice? What did you see?
Clarice Starling: Lambs. The lambs were screaming.
Hannibal Lecter: They were slaughtering the spring lambs?
Clarice Starling: And they were screaming.
Going by the Youtube clips, it sounds more like a red fox. I’m having trouble finding clips of fishers. Some of them claim to be fishers, but the comments say they’re foxes. I found one clip I think was a fisher, and it didn’t sound like my animal as much as the foxes did. I can’t find that fisher clip now.
I know there are red foxes in my area, but I’ve never heard of fishers.
Yea, I hear coyotes all the time on our property. Especially when the train goes by.
When the train goes by, the engineer will blow the whistle (because there’s a road crossing near our house). The coyotes will howl when they hear the train whistle.
What spoof virus checkers? It’s megaupload. All they ask you to do is type in a captcha and wait 30 seconds to download the file. (And I’m using Windows.)
