What animals can die from chocolate?

I had a dog that was around 25 pounds eat a full 1 pound hersheys kiss once…other than running around like an absolute maniac barking his brains out for hours he was fine, well fine for him anyway.

Chocolate toxicity is totally treatable, BTW. If you catch them within 30 min of consumption, you can usually get them to vomit the majority. If you find out within a few hours, get them to the vet where they can receive treatment and they will usually recover. (IV fluids, charcoal)

If ever in doubt, call the ASPCA’s poison control hotline: 888-426-4435 where you will receive complete instructions and a reference number for your vet to call if they think what you have going on needs to be seen by your vet ASAP. It’s a $65 charge, and worth every penny if it may save your pet’s life.

Sorry, the only cub I’ve spotted was at night across town, and I didn’t have a camera with me. Since it was nighttime anyway, I doubt I could have gotten a decent picture. The ones that visit the yard seem to be full size, and fortunately they don’t come out when we do - we just find huge paw prints in mud or early/late snow near the knocked over compost bin.

I’ll take the advice in this thread and throw them out little by little in case the baby raccoons are still awake. (here’s a picture of their mom when she was young)

Must of been one hell of a breakup. :frowning:
