# What animals creep you out?

There are some critters that are widely reviled as being creepy - a lot of people dislike snakes, or rats, or bugs. Right or wrong, animals that fall into the creepy-crawly category are often maligned.
And then there are those of us who are squicked out by animals that don’t seem to bother everyone else. A friend of mine is terrified beyond all reason by starfish. Personally, I have a strong dislike for apes and monkeys - I don’t think they’re funny, or cute, or clever.

Oh, animals. Not centipedes or silverfish then. Um…I don’t really like monkeys either, but they don’t squick me out. I love snakes, so that’s out. Hmm.
Other than monkeys, I can’t think off-hand of anything that really turns me off. I’m sure I will though.

“Normal” animals don’t creep me out at all. But [this little bugger](http://library.thinkquest.org/3017/hallucig.htm), aptly named Hallucigenia, gives me nightmares.

How odd.
I thought I was unusual with my dislike of monkeys, but I’m not.
I think they look too human. 😛
And I’m terrified of spiders, but that’s really common as well.

That’s indeed a strange creature **LonesomePolecat**.
Kind of beautiful, though. And small.
Do you think it got it’s name because it’s sting[?] makes you hallucinate, or maybe that you _think_ you’re hallucinating when you see the darn thing?

Moths. Remember when God said He would never again send a flood as punishment? It’s true. He sent moths instead.
I also hate spiders. I don’t know about your region, but around here we’ve had a freakin’ plague of spiders. The webs are everywhere, just waiting to be walked into so you can do the “AGH OMG THER’S SPIDERR AL OBER ME!!!1” dance.

I have a close friend who is also wigged out by monkeys. Me, though, I like 'em. Our hairy little cousins.
_I_ don’t like goats. I don’t like their weird sideways eyes, or their smell, or the way they butt at you and try to eat your clothes. Nasty buggers.

It’s extinct by about a half a billion years, so no one knows if the sting would make you hallucinate. It’s called Hallucigenias because it looks like something out of a surrealist painting.
I agree it’s beautiful. But it still creeps me out. It’s like something out of Lovecraft.

I’m in Amsterdam.
I have a small yard and I swear they build their webs on face-level, right above the path, on purpose.

How many enemies will I earn with this one? CATS. I can not stand cats. I don’t think they serve much purpose in life, they will scratch people for no reason at all, and…I could come up with a million things.
And since others are throwing bugs in here, I don’t like roaches, although I have eaten one before.

The only animals that really trouble me are leeches. Fortunately, they don’t seem to be around in this part of the world, but over in temperate coastal Australia, they were common in the damper parts of forests. They could get onto you through boots, socks, and all, so that you had take the boots and socks off when you got one. And even when you uncovered them, they were impossible to get off except by dropping a bit of salt (sodium chloride) onto them. The worst was when you didn’t find them before your socks were soaked with blood (your own blood, of course). Nasty things. (Though they don’t actually hurt much, because they mildly anesthetise you, so that you won’t notice them until it’s too late.)

I was _hoping_ someone would say cats! I have heard of people who are scared of cats, but never had an opportunity to ask why. Are you actually scared or disgusted by cats, the way I am about spiders?
