What are all the smaller rooms in a church for

Just realized something in Zabali’s post I’d neglected. While High Church priests will perform the ablutions at the altar (which always smacks to me of having your guests sit around watching while you do the dishes), if the priest does not do this, the Altar Guild is to consume or preserve the consecrated wine, then cleanse the vessels as follows:

Taking the water cruet, rinse any crumbs from the paten into the chalice. Then add water to the chalice to remove the crumbs and any droplets of wine remaining, and dump this down the piscina. Empty any water from ablutions down the piscina as well. You may then wash the vessels with soap and water, dry them and perform any needed polishing, and put them away for the next use.

(BTW, if there is leavened communion bread remaining, it may be consumed reverently by parishioners – small boys are always a big help in this department, being always hungry – or may be broken up and scattered, again reverently, in a natural area adjacent to the church, where the sinless creatures of God’s creation will be nourished by it.)
