# What are people from USA called, not americans?

Which explains the general antipathy so many Americans have to the United Nations. Because the opposite of a we-un is, of course, a UN.

On a past message board we had a Brit who for some reason was very annoyed/offended by people from the US calling themselves or being referred to as “Americans.” This person always called them “USAians” and took us (US citizens) and anyone else to task for using “Americans” when referring to us. I really don’t know what the issue was with that person, but it was a real pet peeve for her.

She was very smart and interesting most of the time, but there were a couple of issues that she seemed almost irrational about. IMHO anyway.
