I’ve never used a DVR or TiVo to record a TV show I’ve never seen Reservoir Dogs I’ve never had sex with a woman I’ve never had Feta cheese I’ve never used a robot arm (I don’t think, unless you want to get technical) ---

Other than work acquaintances I’ve never had a black friend. My ex wife’s best friend married a Jewish guy. He’s the only Jew I’ve ever known (as far as I know). I’ve known a few lesbians but I’ve never known (as more than a passing acquaintance) an openly gay man. I have known a few that I assumed were gay. OK, more than an assumption but I’ve never known a gay man that talked about being gay. ---

Things that I thought were rare about me (no broken bones, e.g.) seem pretty common and I’ve done a lot of the rare things others haven’t (drinking, smoking, denim-ing). Let’s see… I’ve never cheated on a romantic partner. ---

I never went to the Statue of Liberty, in spite of living in Manhattan for years. I’ve never smoked, not even once. I’ve never been to Africa or S. America, Canada or Mexico. I’ve never eaten shellfish. I never ate an Oreo as a child, because they weren’t kosher. They became kosher some time in the 1990s, and I had my first one. Ditto for Snickers bars, and several other kinds of candy and snacks my son takes for granted. I’ve never had a BLT, except one made with soy “Fakin.” I’ve had a baby without giving birth, because he got stuck, and I needed a c-section. I have never cheated on my husband, not even when he was in Iraq for a year-- and I never cheated on anyone else I was in a monogamous relationship with. I’ve never gone commando. I’ve never tweeted. I’ve never posted a video to YouTube. I never watched _The Sopranos_, _Sex and the City_ or _Lost_. I never had sex when I was still in high school. I have donated blood, but I never donated anything directly to anyone, like bone marrow, a kidney, or a liver lobe. Never gone beyond a BA, in spite of coming from a family of doctors, lawyers, rabbis, and Ph.Ds. Actually, I did get an interpreter’s certificate, and a MOS certificate from the military, but those don’t really count. ---

I have also never drunk coffee. I’m glad I’m not the only one. Never swum. Never ridden a bike. Not successfully, anyway. I have inner ear damage from a childhood infection, so I just can’t get the hang of balancing on a bike. ---

I am curious about all of you who have never had coffee. Did no one in your house drink coffee? Because I had my first coffee at about age 4, a sip of dad’s with sugar and a sip of mom’s with cream, no sugar. (I now drink mine black except if it’s after dinner, then I put in cream.) You were never anxious to taste it as a kid? ---

You were never anxious to taste it as a kid? My dad drank it. My oldest brother drank it. It always smelled like roasted dirt to me, and still does, so I never had any interest in tasting it. Me, my mum, and my other two brothers have never drunk it at all, to the best of my knowledge. Certainly I never have. ETA: my ladyfriend also doesn’t drink it. Lots of people don’t. I’m kind of hoping that once smoking is finally wiped out, coffee drinking becomes the next disgusting habit to be eradicated.
