My daughter loved the Junie B. Jones series when she was that age. Not literary but fun.
I love my house but I lament the fact that they named the street Black Stallion Place.

5.) The Babysitter’s Little Sister series (sort of a junior Baby-Sitter’s Club)
6.) The Magic School Bus series
Weird. It’s amazing that no one has mentioned A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket or the Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony Diterlizzi and Holly Black. Those books are SO popular with children in that age-group. I’d also reccomend Coraline by Neil Gaiman. Oh-- and The Dark Hills Divide: The Land of Elyon, Book 1 by Patrick Carman.
I’d recommend all of those books for a young girl. Quite easy reads with illustrations too.
