What are some products or services that are definitely worth the cost?

Travelling. True - it is not exactly a thing, but the experiences you get from meeting other cultures are priceless. And nothing - save senility - can take that away again.

Oh, and a Leatherman. Most useful item ever.

This is a matter of preference, but I love my Roomba. I hate to vacuum, but letting the little guy run around and vacuum for me, I can live with. It’s quiet enough that I can play video games while it does its thing, which is nice. While it may not be the strongest vacuum in the world, hey, it still beats not doing vacuuming at all.

Oh, and broadband internet access. Whenever I’m without it (like when I go home to visit my mom), I feel like I lost a limb or something.

I think I would like to have a Roomba. I’m a pretty half-assed housekeeper; there are things I will clean regularly, but the floors aren’t one of them (some of them? whatever - I don’t do floors much).

Almost forgot. I bought a Skaagen watch for $100 over four years ago. It’s incredibly thin. I only have to adjust the time twice a year for DST.

ipod/iTunes - Very user friendly plus very easy to download tracks from my own extensive c.d. collection. I have the video one and have downloaded a few t.v. series (“The Office” and “Hill Street Blues”) which I can whip out anytime I’m bored (BMV, hair salon, soccer practice).

**Gold SkyMiles AMEX ** - In the next 2 months, I’m going to book my 5th, 6th and 7th free RT tix to Hawaii (retail value: $5k) with SkyMiles I’ve earned doing the things I normally do, such as grocery shopping, filling up my gas tank, etc… Annual fees paid out in the last 7 years: $510. Not a bad return.

Ditto the high thread count sheets. But they don’t have to be $100+. I’ve gotten all my sheets at HomeGoods (the Hotel Collection is a good, quality brand), SmartBargains and Overstock.com for around $60.

DVR - I hope the cable companies don’t realize that they have us addicts by the balls.

OnLine Banking/BillPay - I’d pay for it, but my bank offers it for free. It has saved me HUNDREDS of hours of time writing checks, reconciling accounts plus the cost of stamps. The bank actually mails non-EDF payees out on its own dime.

Spirit Treadmill - I used to have a cheap treadmill. Then I bought a commercial grade one. There is no comparison.

Roboforms - A software that keeps track of your usernames/passwords. Also include a form filler, where you click a button and all your pertinent info (name, address, cc#) is filled in. Very nice time saver and worth the money I spent.

Costco membership - I have an Executive membership, which costs $100 but I get 2% back on my purchases and it pays for the membership + some. One example: video iPod, which is $250 everywhere else including Apple.com sells at Costco for $238. $50 iTunes gift card cost $40. I’ve saved hundreds of dollars using their car rental discounts. I LOVE Costco.

Cheap products I love; MagicEraser, Infusium shampoo/conditioner, Frontline flea medicine (the one you get at the vet’s office), Excedrin, Dramamine, Definity Intensely Hydrating moisturizer, Breyer’s ice cream, Rubbermaid containers

I uploaded our entire cd collection to my iTunes, then burned the whole shebang onto DVDs (around 3400 songs - it fit onto four DVDs), then I put these back-up DVDs into our fireproof safe box. God forbid we should ever lose our cd collection, but we have them backed-up now. We’re also planning to get that adaptor so we can upload all our tapes and lps, too.

Divorce.

Birkenstocks. I’ve worn them exclusively since 1991 and love, love, love them. I haven’t had the same success with the tie-on shoes and need to replace my overworked birk tieons that I bought on Ebay (and love to death, but I think they are a discontinued style.) and am thinking about z-coil.

Buckwheat Pillows got sucked in by QVC in our early days of just getting cable and cannot sleep without this pillow. Supports the head without mushying the pillow around and is allergy free. Everyone should have one of these.

Only Knitters will know what I am talking about: Addi Turbo Needles. Expensive but worth their weight.

Feria Hair Color. I’ve used every kind out there and this is the best for shinyness, depth and radiance of color.

GM Suburban. Hauls 7 kids or adults, a assload of crap and can tow something ALL at the same time. Plus ramming capacity to run over the little furren cars.

Ebay and Etsy handmade goods. I rarely buy anything in a store ( except food) anymore.
Nintendo DS portable, nearly indestructible, play against/with other kids. This thing is easily an electronic pacifier for kids, but it is freakin’ amazing and worth its weight in gold when we are at wrestling competitions and the entire zip code is filled with squirrel boys and girls.
