- Definitely have to add my +1 for “The Lives of Others.” It’s one of my favorite movies, period, and was what immediately came to mind when I saw this thread title.

- Another +1 for “Amelie.” How incredibly sweet, and not in a syrupy way. You can’t help but to root for the girl the entire time, and have your dark little heart lit up.

- “In the Loop” was hilarious, and is on my list of favorites of movies, foreign or not. Doesn’t feel like a foreign film to me considering everyone is speaking English and there are so many American actors, but it’s British, and very, very funny.

- “Nights of Cabiria” (recommended to me by a Doper) was an awesome find and receives full marks.

- I don’t know if “Persepolis” is something I would describe as one of the best I’ve seen, but I saw it not too long ago and enjoyed it a lot. I reckon y’all would too.

That’s all for now.

Also, Mesrine: Part 1: Killer Instinct

> All these posts, and no mention of _Amelie_? Forget all of these “if your sensibilities can handle it” recommendations-- _Amelie_ is the happiest movie I’ve ever seen. You _will_ leave it feeling good, no matter what’s going on with you.

> And I’ll also second **The Other Jeffrey Lebowski** ’s mention of _Pan’s Labyrinth_, though I will warn that it’s pretty brutal in spots (the main villain is a highly-placed Fascist in the Spanish Civil War, and behaves accordingly). But it’s a wonderfully surreal and yet realistic fantasy.

Two excellent films.

Also from Australia, a wonderful comedy, [The Castle](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118826/).

Probably not everyone’s taste, but I enjoyed [Troll Hunter](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1740707/?ref_=sr_1), from Norway.

A science fiction noir, [Alphaville](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058898/?ref_=sr_1). From France, by Jean-Luc Godard

I really liked **Moon** and **Troll Hunter**. It’s funny, I never thought about **Moon** being a British film since it stars Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey (his voice, anyway.)
