What are the last three five-star books you’ve read?

Since We Fell, Dennis Lehane (read Jan. 2018)
Red Sky, Chris Goff (read June 2017)

and for some reason (these two were a year apart BTW) Goodreads jumps way, way back when I hit the “next” button and doesn’t show me how I rated them.

I am pretty sure I rated Gone Girl and Dark Places (Gillian Flynn for both) 5 stars and Sharp Objects (again Flynn) 4 stars. I don’t do a lot of 5-stars. I was reading these in 2011. I don’t know why Goodreads is being so balky; I read plenty of books between 2011 and 2017. You would think I would remember the 5-star ones but I don’t.

My rating system kind of goes like this: 5 stars, read it if you only read 10 books a year. 4 stars, read it if you read two books a month. 3 stars, read it if you read a book a week. On the theory that people who read a lot need to dip further into the well.

The Martian - Andy Weir.

I’m going to cheat here and give an omnibus to sneak in two books in a series: A Confederation of Valor (Consists of Valor’s Choice & The Better Part of Valor) - Tanya Huff. I enjoy the entire series but these two kicked it all off.

I’ll also nominate Komarr - by Lois McMaster Bujold. Again the entire Vorkosigan series is a joy to read.

Oh I love Gillian Flynn’s writing, Hilarity N. Suze! Since We Fell looks interesting; I’ve added it to my list.

Dancer Flight, I almost read The Martian, because it’s been so well-received between its high ratings and the awards it’s gotten. I had it on my list for a while, but then took it off because it just sounds exactly like the sort of book I wouldn’t like. From what I understand, for a lot of the story it’s really just one character in survival mode, which is not my thing at all.

I really like Tanya Huff and love Bujold, so I need to read Andy Weir.

Here are my last three five-star ratings on Goodreads.

  1. The Great Gatsby - Fitzgerald
  2. Lonesome Dove - McMurtry
  3. The Well of Ascension (Mistborn #2) - Sanderson

And none in the last year, but I’m not generally reading as much as I did five years ago.
