I find it annoying when some poster starts a thread like “Favorite books” and then sure enough some other poster will come along and start “least favorite books.” And you always know which threads will spawn copies and you just sit there waiting for the inevitable. I suppose it shouldn’t annoy me but it does. ---

I know someone posted earlier about the meaningless of not feeding the trolls, but I find it irritating to the nth degree when some posters can’t understand that said troll was posting simply to get others’ hackles up. If you ignore them, they will go away! I can’t believe how trolls manage to hijack some of the best threads going… what a waste. ---

If you think it’s a good rant, say so. And if it sucks, then either post something relevant or move on. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good rant just as much as the next person. And the ability to rant is one I envy. But if that’s the best you’ve got to post, you’re better off just moving on to the next thread. ---

I can’t stand it when people attack the poster of a GQ for daring to be curious about some Forbidden Subject. If your only contribution to a GQ thread is “Why the hell do you care?!?” then maybe you shouldn’t bother contributing. I also get annoyed by those snotty “Google is your friend” replies. Yes, once in a while some newbie asks “hot tall is Mt. Mckinley” or something. IMHO, the proper response is to welcome him or her to the boards; and _gently_ suggest that he or she take a few moments to search for the answer before posting the question. ---

I hate it when people who have no tolerance on these board. If you misspell a word or have a difficult time putting a sentence together, you never hear the end of it. I hate it when people who use misspelled words and bad grammar as a tool for their defense in argument. It just shows how desperate they are. I can’t stand it when I read “misguided” threads, created by people who are probably just having a bad day, and people RELENTLESSLY pummeling the dignity out of those poster for DAYS. Even if the OP retracts and explains that it was all because of a bad day they had, you constantly read Dopers reacting to the first post ignoring what had been written afterwards by the author. I hate the know-it-alls who think they are generally more intelligent than you and therefor are right about everything. Those who criticize others, (even people who aren’t Dopers), for general mistakes they have made. Like no one here made a stupid mistake while driving in their car or at work, it’s just ok to bitch about other people doing it. Some people just don’t understand that other peoples ‘strengths’ may not be where their own ‘strengths’ lie. People who are willing to complain about things they hate, until one poster comes along to trashes something they love… to which they respond: “why even bother posting about this in the first place?” As if everything is a waist of time unless that Doper approves it’s worthy of critisiing. ---

OK… I know this is just a “me too” in general… but to all you who hate those… to hell with it. I’m venting dammit! I hate HATE _HATE_ people who enter threads with the soul purpose of mocking the thread and the people in it. For example, Tuesday night I may go into Cafe Society and post a thread… “I think Bill is the Mole.” (referring to the ABC show.) Only to get some asshole post, “I think you’re a retard for watching that lame show.” HAHA! Back the fuck off jack. I never said anything about you. I’m sure that everything you’re interested is of the highest quality. But you know what, I like the show and I was asking a question of other people who like the show and since that doesn’t include you… DON’T OPEN A THREAD ABOUT THE FUCKING SHOW! You just come off as a dick, and in fact from then on, when I see your posts I think. “Yeah, well he’s just a dick anyway.” Ahhh, I feel better… ---

Of course, there could be a better way than I tried it, but overall it would add some additional queries and those always slow things down. So until the SDMB speeds up, you’re better off with them than without them for now. ---

People who ask chemistry questions about how to make drugs in GQ. I want to keep it safe for me to ask legit questions, and some asshats like to jeopardize that for me. POST COUNT PARTIES. Consarn it, you kids today certainly are opinionated. Why can’t we all just get along and agree that my opinions are the best? I’ll think of some in a while, probably. 1. People who cry about spelling and grammar. Not everyone here is an English major or wonderful typist. Correct people all you want, but must you be rude about it? If you want typo free reading, pick up a book. 2. People who not only start an answer with “Google is your friend” but complain elsewhere about people not searching for their own answers. Maybe people have done a net search but are asking for a first hand experience answer, or simply would like to get a discussion going. Nobody is forced to use their own precious time to do anyone’s dirty work. If you had to do a search to answer a GQ, obviously you were interested in the answer yourself. I learned things in GQ that I never knew I was interested in, all thanks to people not searching for themselves and instead, asking the masses. Isn’t that the point of this place? Also, if you want to be funny, can you at least answer the GQ first, or wait until an answer is posted? 3. People who think that their length of time here or high post counts actually mean that they are more intelligent or that their opinion means more. Along the same lines, people who say “you haven’t been here long enough to form an opinion about this place or another poster” if they complain about something. What exactly is the acceptable length of reading time someone must put in before forming an opinion? Do a search in the Pit for a newbie making a rant if you don’t believe they exist. They are in there. 4. People who think that this place is actually above certain topics, and judge people based on what type of threads they post to. Get over yourselves. If sex threads, for instance, are so evil, why are the number of views very high? Lots of interest in the subject, but god forbid if you post in one. Then you are an attention whore or a slut which means you can’t possibly have a brain. Some people use this place for entertainment, not just a learning center or an ego inflation device. Let them have fun without being an ass. Isn’t the point of MPSIMS to just have some fun? 5. Hypocrits. You know who you are. As just one example, don’t tell somebody to “just don’t read what poster A writes if you don’t like them” and turn around and slam somebody else for what they write or being a one-trick pony. Usually, this is directly tied with the number of post counts on who can be beat up or not. 6. People who follow others around holding a grudge. It’s quite petty. They pissed you off once? You don’t like them? Call them on it, then grow up and get over it. I was screwed over in a big way by someone that many still hold in high regard, and I know that I will never receive the apology in here, on email or in person, but I don’t stalk them around to throw jabs at any opportunity. 7. People who hang in the Pit just to be nasty to an OP. I don’t like most Pit rants, but I generally don’t post in them that their rant isn’t worthy, or that they don’t have a right to bitch. If you don’t like it, that doesn’t mean you have to abuse someone. There are some people in here that I don’t recall ever seeing them say anything nice to or about other people. Everyone just lighten up and be nice dammit!!! It makes this place a lot more fun!! ---
