In GQ: - questions that could really be answered by spending 2 minutes looking in up on Google. - answers that don’t actually answer the question, eg OP “How much does a giraffe weigh?” Answer “I don’t know about a giraffe, but a hippopotamus weighs 1,000 lbs” ---

-When people become rude in GDs just because I don’t have the same opinion as them. -When people in GD become ludicrously abstract or technical so that they don’t have to abandon an otherwise indefensible point. -When someone posts something stupid, starts getting torn to shreds, and never defends/apologizes/concedes. He just doesn’t reply. -The fact that stupid, deliberately inflammatory OPs tend to get lots of attention. -When people think that having a big name say so makes it true. For example, in GD people are fond of quoting the Founding Fathers to prove their point. Who cares Thomas Jefferson (everyone’s number one quotable founder) said on that subject? That was 200 years ago. Let it go. Unless he (or whoever they’re quoting) wrote it into law, or unless the question specifically askes “What would the Framers have thought about this?” _it has no relevancy_. Logic, examples, science, and THOUGHT prove things. Not quotes. ---

Umm…not to hijack this, Qwerty, but quotes from, for instance, the Founding Fathers, tend to demostrate their THOUGHTS on a given subject, which, if that subject has to do with the laws of the United States of America, are the very definition of relevant. ---

People who do a half-assed job of reading my post, toss an insult in for good measure, and then actually post an argument that _agrees_ (or comes very close) with what I was saying. Or they completely missed the point of my post and are arguing against a comment I didn’t even make. That’s one of the main reasons I quit hanging out in the Pit. _looks at board title_ Oh, shit! ---

1. Talking about yourself in the third person- yeesh it’s just sad. 2. Smiley abuse. 3. I am not saying high to Opal now, that’s for sure. . . . 4. Signature lines were every complementary post about you is quoted. 5. Knock-off threads in Cafe Society and the Pit. Also those stupid “who would win posts” half of which were rip-off’s of a famous site dedicated to that nonsense. 6. Spike worship in Cafe Society (probably just jealousy on my part 😉 ). 7. Hyper-sensitive posters just itching for a fight. 8. “No typo” perfect posters making me look bad (I do not any help with that thank you) come on, at least post a “hte” instead of a “the” every now and then. 9. People in GD bloviating on for pages about how the world has worked and should work whose understanding is based, not on studies of history, philosophy, and political science, but on having read a couple of books by Ayn Rand and Robert Heinlein. People who feel the need to pounce on those having a bad day. Possible Examples: OP: My dog got loose and got hit by a car and died. Response: Maybe if you had taken better care of your dog he’d still be alive. OP: My mother died of cancer today. Response: Maybe if you had made sure she saw the doctor more often she’d still be alive. OP: My new bike was stolen. Response: Maybe if you had put the lock through the frame instead of the wheel, you’d still have your bike. Please show some compassion and keep the negative things to yourself. ---

I hate it when I’m reading a thread, and start to think “Hey! I have an opinion about the OP! I have some knowledge! I can cite some actual facts!” Then I read a little farther and see that someone else has already posted my opinion. Only they had better references, superior phrasing, and a sharper wit. Plus they said it in a paragraph less than the OP I was composing in my head. You smart, speedy people keep sinking my battleship, dammit!
