There’s an argument on that?

**Dogma**. I think it’s a brilliant statement from someone who feels passionately about their faith. Many more seem to believe that it’s blasphemous.

Close.

We were their neighbors, & lived there before they arrived.

Dad’s a good man. He stood by his new neighbors, because he is a decent (sp?) man. But his job required him to travel. And the cowards sent me, my newborn brother & Mom a “gift” in the middle of the night. We stayed with Grandma & Grandpa, until we found a new place to live.

The Hell came to Maywood later. ☹

I liked this movie, but havn’t seen it in a while. There were supposed to be two sequals, but the movie tanked so they were never filmed. I wonder if the planned sequels would have seemed more complete?

Anyway, my pick would be **A Christmas Story**

Divisive? It merely splits the world into people who think _A Christmas Story_ is one of the greatest Christmas movies ever, and people who haven’t seen _A Christmas Story_.

Not that cleanly. My girlfriend and I both think of it as high comedy.

I don’t know of anyone who has a lukewarm opinion of Lynch’s **Dune**. People can either quote it verbatim or they deny its existence. Both groups include fans of the books, however.

I love it. I read the books after seeing the movie and I can see why others would hate it, but I don’t. I think it’s great fun.

Almost everyone I know who’s seen it in real life thinks _It’s A Wonderful Life_ is a funny, touching, ultimately finely-made film.

Almost everyone I’ve heard speak of it in the SDMB thinks it’s saccharine tripe.

_picks up broad brush and walks away whistling_

> I think **Stuart Saves His Family** is divisive. There are a lot of people like me who think it’s like recovery for people who don’t know whether to vomit or laugh at the term “recovery” but who really need it even though they think it’s stupid and embarassing. But most people just think it’s one of the dumbest movies ever made and they draw the line at barfing.
>
> I know there are people who love it because they said so on imdb.

I love the Stuart Smalley skits on SNL. (I also love alliteration.) They’re hysterical because they spoof a segment of the 12-step population that desperately deserves it.

I hated _Stuart Saves His Family_ because it was overwrought trash.

I love _Santa Sangre_! I foist it on all my friends, and their usual reaction is something like “That was kinda cool, but what the f\*\*k, man?” 😃

**Wes Anderson’s** films seem to divide people, including and especially his fans. One fan might love _The Royal Tenenbaums_ and hate _Rushmore_ (that fan being me) while others think that _Rushmore_ is the pinnacle of his career (foolish, foolish people).

_The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou_ has widely been considered a failure by most people - critics, his fans, and film viewers in general. Recently, I had a chance to watch it and really enjoyed it. Maybe not quite as good as _The Royal Tenebaums_ (which I consider one of the best American films of the 90’s) but it’s in that direction.

_Napoleon Dynamite_ might be the best Wes Anderson film not directed by Wes Anderson.

And for the record, I think _Starship Troopers_ is a great film. A GREAT film! People just don’t get it.
