when a dog can read and knows his multiplication tables, get back with me. No doubt your dog is quite smart for his kind.

There is intelligent and there is smart. Memorizing the multiplication tables is intelligent.
A dog turned out by his owners into the wild and learning how to survive on his own takes smarts.
I have known some very intelligent honor students that frankly didn’t have the smarts to come in out of the rain.
I’ve also had dogs that followed instructions better than some honor students.

The quote is a dig at the parents, and true a lot of the time, judging from some of the exploits of honour students I have known.

Hillary Clinton [expressed a similar sentiment in 2007](http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/politics/29045-clinton-we-have-to-take-our-country-back) and [2008](http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=5265045&page=1&singlePage=true), as well as the many times Kerry said something similar in his 2004 campaign, and even John Dean and Al Gore also said something similar.

Unfortunately the bumper sticker doesn’t actually say that.

I saw that bumper sticker for the first time a few weeks ago. The genius had parked extra close to me in the supermarket parking lot for no reason, forcing me to enter from the passenger side and climb over the central console.

The “Re-Nig” bumper stickers were the absolute worst.

In terms of stupidity, though, there are few worse than the “abortion stops a beating heart” stickers. I mean, isn’t that the point of an abortion?

The bumper sticker was not agressive, offensive, or insulting. It expressed a sentiment you disagree with. A tolerant person would have ignored it. Thank you for confirming the stereotype that you don’t have to scratch a liberal very hard to find a totalitarian.

Can someone explain the offensiveness of the “re-nig” sticker?

My first thought is that it’s a play off the N-word?

Some of the fish spin-offs I find rather funny, especially the Gefilte fish and the Flying Spaghetti Monster one. However there’s one with the Darwin fish having sex with the Christian fish which I really don’t like trying to talk around if a little kid notices it.

How about “It is not a choice, it is a child” There’s one trucking company that seems to have that on all their trucks.

A few years back –

“I’d rather see my sister in a whorehouse than my brother on a Jap bike.”

It was helmet sticker, I guess, not really a bumper sticker. Same thing, though.

`My favorite variation looks like the classic “ICHTHYS” fish sticker, only the lettering inside reads “GHOTI”

Fish having sex? Fish don’t really engage in what we would recognize as coital behavior. So far as most people could tell, any image of two fish roughly in proximity with each other could be having fish sex.

Sorry, **Trip** , I gotta go with the crowd here - you took offense where none (or very little) was offered. It reminds mw of when one of my kids would run to me crying “So-and-so called me a dummy!” I would respond "“Are you? No? Good, go back out and play”. I would ask you “Do you get pissed when someone buys a gun? No? Good, go back to work.”

Vulgar? I work in a highly professional capacity for a large insurance company and I hear worse words than that used in meetings pretty much daily. Aggressive? No threat was made. Workplace harrassment? Only if someone forced you to read it every day.

You are correct in that the company has the right to banish any and all bumper stickers from their parking lot, but having the right to doesn’t make it right. I hope you never say or so anything that someone else at your place of employment finds offensive.

I’m a liberal who’d like to see the Second Amendment repealed. Really.

But I’m not “offended” if someone has a different point of view, and expresses it by way of a silly bumper sticker. Nor am I insulted. And I’m certainly not harassed by the display of such a bumper sticker.

It might have been against some company’s harassment policy (although I still fail to see how it’s harassing), but I would have let it go.

I mean, what did you gain here? Other than a small, somewhat petty victory? Do you think you made him reconsider his position? Or think that “hey, maybe those liberals aren’t so bad, after all”?

You don’t have to choose between the two. Crossfire is a thing that happens.

The Truth fish eating the Darwin fish always made me think of a Truth fish being eaten by a Belief fish. But that would cause offense even if it could, strictly speaking, refer to anyone’s beliefs. The context would imply target beliefs.

I saw this one today! I think the semi was labeled Covenant Industries or something. Got me to wondering whether the driver agreed with the sentiment, or was just doing his/her dang job regardless…

Seems kind of crappy to have to espouse an idea you don’t even agree with, because it’s connected to your job. :dubious:
