I went down to our admin assistant’s office to sign up for the upcoming annual office potluck lunch. I was trying to decide whether to bring the same meatballs I’ve brought for the last three years or whether I should do something different. No decision required - “Meatballs” and my name were already pre-printed on the signup sheet. Poutine needs fresh white cheddar cheese curds and the right kind of gravy. Done correctly it is delicious, done wrongly it is just soggy fries and cheese (really, _mozzarella_?). ---

During yesterday’s staff meeting I found out I get benefits in December instead of January, yay; it’ll be nice not to have to take unpaid time off when the university closes for winter break. But I also have to go to Texas for [a conference](http://thenadd.org/) next year - and I’ve never flown before. I’m sort of happy that I’ll get to met several people I’ve only spoken to, but I’m as good a traveler as your average ADHD adult is, which is not good at all and doing something new isn’t going to help me get my crap together when I need to. Fortunately one of my coworkers promises that we can travel together, so I actually get there on time! ---

Blurf. I am having a relatively idle week at irk, thus it is not as irksome as usual. I’m slowly handing stuff over to my successor and now that she’s got access to some of the systems we use, I can show her how things work and all that kind of stuff. Looks like I might finally be allowed to leave here on Friday! The nice lady from the agency rang this morning, she’s got a potential job for me in the School of Chemistry which starts on 18th October so I hope I’ll be able to just sail into that one. Other than that, I’m making lots of tea and drinking it all, as I’ve not got much else to do here. ---

Cyclists are a pretty safe bunch. It’s the idiots in cars, trucks and vans that are dangerous. I would hope she’d get at least an involuntary manslaughter charge. ☹ **Bookie** this just means the meatballs are stuff your co-irkers dream about. They’re lookin’ forward to the potluck just cause they know they’ll get some of your yummy meatballs! 😃 **elf** good on your co-irker for agreein’ to travel with you. Havin’ a travel companion will make your first time on a plane less stressful. If it’s a flight over a couple of hours, I usually nap through about half of it. Then again, I have the ability to just shut down like that. I’m not afraid to fly, just don’t like it. I accept it as a means to get from point a to point b in a minimal amount of time. **Nettie** I prefer my peas to march from the fork into my mouth. 😛 Now I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy wants sustenance. At least MusicChoice is now playing Halloween stuff. OTOH, stores already have Christmas decorations and such out. (grumble) I can understand craft stores having project kits and such, but ready-made ornaments and lights and such? Before Halloween? Really? Why can’t we take holidays in sequence any more? ---

Wah. I apparently woke up and put my cranky pants on. I also vaguely remember a dream about teenaged vampires in the grocery store. One of them was trying to show me his bitchin’ fang scars like he was trying to impress me, and I was holding him off with a two-by-four. Not like I was actually ready to stake him, because he wasn’t threatening at all. He was kind of a like a cute vampire puppy. My subconsious is weird. ---

I think the printer at my office is reading what I send it. Attempt #1 to print a 20-page document came to a halt with page 5 accordioned under the toner cartridge and a loud beep to alert the entire floor that there’s a jam. I unjam the printer, and it resumes printing at the bottom half of page 8. 😕 So, I cancel the job and go back to my desk to re-send the document while another document is printing. That intervening 26-page thing came out OK, so I send the 20-pager again. print…print…print…print…_BEEEEP!_ Sure enough, page 5 is again wadded up under the cartridge. Poltergeists? NSA monitoring? Lupus? I have no idea… Page 5 prints OK on its own, so I eventually outsmart the thing by printing pages 1-4, put the previously printed page 5 on the pile, then continuing on with pages 6-20. ---

Afternoon! Thought I’d go for a wander in the park, and see if the chestnuts were about ready- they were, and I now have a big bag full (with masses more down there if I feel like going back to get 'em). Any suggestions for what to do with the things? I’m having trouble finding good veggie recipes that aren’t just stuffing. I’ve only beaten the squirrels to a handful or so in previous years, so I’ve just roasted them, but there’s masses this year! ---
