What are the ten best movies of all time?

There are a few good Russian Comedies, even though the communists did not allow film makers to make light of Government…

An absolute classic is Dvenadsat Stuliev (12 Chairs)
Another is Dzentelmeni Udachi (Gentlemen of Fortune)

These are older films, so the quality of the video may not be good, but hilarious content to be sure.

But thanks for doing so, Demo. It made me remember that I always wanted to copy those naughty movie titles that Bucky and Eve made up. Think I’ll send 'em along to some carefully selected recipients . . .

Oops, my mistake. I see that Archive Guy is the resurrecter. Thanks, AG.

Braveheart
Terminator
Clash of the Titans
Legends of the Fall
Interview with a Vampire
The Patriot
Fight Club
Terms of Endearment
Could be I just like looking at Mel Gibson and Bradd Pitt.

I like all the movies I in my top ten best list but they aren’t neccessarily the ten I watch most often. 2001: A Space Odyssey is a great movie but you have to be in a certain mental state to sit through it. McLintock! is a fun movie but the Duke rarely rises to high cinema. As the good folks of SDMB have shown by responses to my Joe Jackson post they have good taste so I’m going to have a hard time coming up with something no one has mentioned.

10- Young Frankenstein It was hard deciding between this and its sibling Blazing Saddles.
9- Dr. Strangelove or: how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb
8- Sunset Boulevard The definitive film-noir in my book.
7- The Best Years of Our Lives One of the first to explore the darkening mood in America after the war.
6- The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance Sometimes the Duke and John Ford do rise to high cinema.
5- The African Queen
4- Lonesome Dove I know I’ll catch flack because this was a TV miniseries but the original screenplay was written as a movie to star John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda.
3- 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea This movie makes me want to be Captain Nemo.
2- Alien Scariest damn movie I ever saw.
1- Top Gun Ow! Ow! Stop hitting me! Cant you people take a fucking joke?!!
**1 (serious this time)- ** The Godfather and easy choice but I couldn’t leave out such an archetype.

Wow, I didn’t even look at the date on the other posts until I read yours, pug! Good job Archive Guy!

Two Words: “Bottle Rocket” (1996)

Its the best movie I’ve ever seen (although I’ve never seen a movie made before 1970).

See it and then see it again. I’ve seen it at least 10 times and become more impressed each time.
