Hum… remember, I’m old, so I’ve already done alota stuff…
1. Visit Europe…done
2. Visit South America…done
3. Be famous if only for 15 minutes…done
4. Find my soulmate, and marry him…done
5. Sell my glass for what I think its worth.
I’m pretty at peace with my life.
I’ve traveled more than most other poor country gals.
My face has been seen in millions of living rooms daily for over a year.
I’ve been an expert in my chosen field, if only on local levels.
I have worked with, and had the respect of, world renowned doctors in multiple fields, even a Nobel Laurate.
I’ve been a mother.
I’ve loved and been loved, and am loved.
I’m comfortable in my skin.
I can be alone comfortably.
I have books.
I have cats.
I have a library ladder.
I have a sense of humor.

Work my way out of poverty: Check.
Take a few years off in my early 40s to just kick back and take it all in: Check.
Feel a need to go back to work again and be productive: Check.
Live comfortably with very few requirements to sustain my happiness: In progress.
Avoid major health problems until the day I die: TBD.

I couldn’t cut it down to just five, sorry.
1. See India and Turkey. I have to make it to Istanbul, just _once_. I want to see the whirling dervishes.
2. Go on an archaeological dig.
3. Have a child, and be a good mother.
4. See a launch from Cape Canaveral.
5. Swim in the Pacific Ocean. I’ve already swam in the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico (when a hurricane was blowing in!)
6. Celebrate New Years in Times Square. Hopefully, I’ll get to do this one this year!
7. Go on tour with my friend Sarah’s band, even as a roadie.
8. Live with the Rainbow Children for awhile, not forever, just a few weeks.

All rather mundane ambitions but still rather worthwhile IMO.

We can work out the details about staying happy as we go.[/li][li]Share at least one of my wife’s top 5.[/li]Start some sort of a business that lets me work with my children (maybe doing remodeling–it was good enough for my dad and me.)[/ul]

Well this thread clears something up for me, anyway. I post infrequently because I appreciate the incredible writing you folks do here. Now I know that evidently a fair number of dopers are literary types, published or unpublished. Probably doesn’t mean I’ll feel any more comfortable offering my meager thoughts on any topics but it’s nice to know I’m legitimately out of my league.
Top 5
1. See the Northern Lights ( I have GOT to get out of North Carolina…)
2. See my sons out of college, on their own, with good jobs and someone to love.
3. Make a difference in science education in this country.
4. Hear back from at least one former student that I changed his/her life.
5. Travel to Japan, Singapore, Shanghai, etc.
I figure I have the best chance with the second item on my list, and really, I’d be happy with that.
