# What ARE those flesh colored raised moles that strike middle-aged men?

And they sprout in threes or fours.

I’m thinking Ray Romano, Robert Redford, Morton Downey, Jr., Kevin Costner.

What are they and how can they be prevented?

I made a [similar query](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=181993&highlight=keratosis) a few months back and it was suggested that if they weren’t just warts, they were seborrhoeic keratosis. I’ve got them on my hand and showed them to a doctor. They’re just warts.

There is also Senile Keratosis. It’s just something that you get as you get older.
