Right…I live in the UK and like anywhere else; your more localised situation gives you a name or term, for example… people from London are referred to as ‘Londoners’, people from Liverpool are referred to as ‘Liverpuddlians’, people from Glasgow are referred to as ‘Glaswegians’ and likewise I know this applys to anyone from anywhere. Now, I live in and come from Edinburgh and even with thourough searching, have been completly unable to find a definative name for us. So far ‘Edinburger’, ‘Dunediner’ and ‘Laudian’ have been found, but nowhere does it give an official answer. Anyone got any ideas about this as we are completly stumped. Cheers. 🙂 ---

Lothian’s the area that Edinburgh’s in, so I guess it could be, but I don’t think so. 🙂 ---

I don’t think you will find an “official” answer, since names for residents are generally set by public usage, rather than by official decree. For some cities, such as London, it’s a fairly simple jump to Londoners. Others, like Edinburgh, just don’t suggest an easy solution. I’m still trying to figure out who first came up with “Glaswegians” and got it universally accepted. ---

I could suggest [“Embrans”](http://www.lehuanet.com/plockton/pbritdic.htm), or “Embranners”, from “Embra”, the shortened version of Edinburgh, as in “Folk fae Embra.” 🙂 It’s probably doomed to just be the equivalent of “from Edinburgh” or “of Edinburgh,” much like one of my ancestors’ birthplaces, Braemar. It’s all King Edwin’s fault for plonking his name down, I suppose. ---

I once asked a Glaswegian friend this very question, but I don’t think you want to hear his answer.
