I haven’t forgiven Farrell for that bastardization of _Land of the Lost._

ETA: Yes, I see somebody mentioned LotL. Fine.

I also nominate Red Dawn 2012.

The definition of a pointless remake. Red Dawn 1984 was a film that unfortunately had its message watered down in editing, if you ignore the tacked on happy ending it’s actually a super downer story and very deeply anti-war.

So what is Red Dawn 2012? Just your basic “throw out all the subtlety” remake where it’s now just an action movie with no real message. It’s a bunch of beautiful teenagers who continue to be beautiful teenagers and kick ass by firing light machine guns one handed. It ends by showing the Wolverines kicking ass and raiding an enemy supply dump as the credits roll, as opposed to the 1984 ending where basically everybody dies but one

Plus as everybody knows MGM self-sabotaged their entire marketing campaign by acknowledging they changed the Chinese bad guys into North Korean bad guys which immediately everyone pointed out the sheer implausibleness of it. The problem is that this was only a weird surface level change, as dialog seems to imply the Chinese are still part of the Foreign Alliance invading the United States as well as seeing Russian advisors helping the North Koreans out. It wouldn’t have saved the movie but they really should have just pivoted the marketing to saying instead of Chinese bad guys they were just remaking Red Dawn wholesale and making the Russians the big bads again and film new intro scenes that explain Russia is trying to reclaim their former glory and the North Koreans are just one of their military allies.

Interesting. I’ve never seen it because all the advertising when it came out made it look like just more jingoistic bullshit. I was getting enough of that in ROTC at the time.

It wasn’t even good at that. It was basically a boring generic action movie.

This thread has a bunch of mentions of movies that are obviously not zero stars. Might not be to your personal taste but zero goes way beyond that. Even my few picks I will begrudgingly admit probably deserve a star or two. The movie that truly earns zero stars is Rob Zombie’s remake of _The Munsters._ There are no redeeming qualities.

I think zero stars and absolute most hated are two different categories. When movies are are stupidly conceived and poorly made, I just walk away, I never watch to the end, why bother? I include teenage boy let’s blow things up with cool machines movies; I’m gone by the second explosion. Thousands of dreck films have deserved zero stars. They don’t inspire hatred in me, that’s reserved for well-made popular films which have made me angry I was seduced into watching them. Game of Thrones would be an example. The Cook The Thief His Wife and Her Lover would be another one. Movies which debase classic books. Movies that revel in rape scenes, sado-masochism and gruesome violence. Movies which have contempt for their audiences. Other reasons.

Everyone died but two, not my idea of a “tacked on happy ending”. Are you saying the plaque honring them was the happy ending?

Yeah, the original _Red Dawn_ and _Rogue One_ honed in a lesson that’s not very comforting to think about: resistance guerillas **die like flies** against a professional military.

The plaque and triumphant music was entirely a studio mandated reshoot.

The original ending was the last Wolverine carrying his dead comrade off into the unknown and the movie just ends, with basically no confirmation if the US even wins the war.

Two lived, right? And adding a plaque that implies the USA won is a “happy ending”? Lots of tthe team died.

There’s a rule of thumb in screenwriting that a page of script equals about a minute of screentime. Factor in action sequences skewing that, a 105-page script comes out to about a two-hour movie (the things I remember from film school). Brian Helgeland, who also wrote _L.A. Confidential_, and would go on to write and direct _A Knight’s Tale_, has said that he turned in an average length script for T_he Postman_, and was stunned when Costner’s lugubrious directing ballooned it to its bloated runtime.

It spawned a subgenre of b movie called “mockbusters”
occasionally a few were better than the big budget version
battleship in the theatres? scifi and netflix had “American warships” there were several others …

You do.

> The rotoscope technique was invented by animator [Max Fleischer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Fleischer)[[6]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoscoping#cite_note-6) in 1915, and used in his groundbreaking _[Out of the Inkwell](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out_of_the_Inkwell)_ animated series (1918–1927). It was known simply as the “Fleischer Process” on the early screen credits, and was essentially exclusive to Fleischer for several years. The live-movie reference for the character, later known as [Koko the Clown](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koko_the_Clown), was performed by his brother ([Dave Fleischer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Fleischer)) dressed in a [clown](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clown) costume.[[7]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoscoping#cite_note-7)

Do you mean _Dead Man Walking_? One of my top 30 films of all time.
_A chacun sa goute_ and all that…

As for mockbusters, does _Romancing the Stone_ (a poor man’s _Raiders of the Lost Ark_) count?

I just remembered another one I hated. I will be accused of not getting the movie’s sense of humor, but I hated this movie.

**The Greasy Strangler**

Has anyone else seen this movie? Atrocious. Unfunny. Uninteresting.

> Ronnie runs a Disco walking tour with his son, Brayden. When a sexy woman takes the tour, it begins a competition between father and son for her love. It also signals the arrival of an oily strangler who stalks the streets at night.

I’ll probably take heat for this, and I don’t know if it’s my least favorite. It was the first thing that came to mind though, Mulholland Drive.
I looked so forward to it, and all I had after viewing was wtf.
