I have no clue. May just hang out at home and listen for gunshots and illegal bottle rockets :). But, Monterey has something called “First Night” that is always interesting. They don’t allow liquor, but they have a lot of cultural events (dancers from different cultures, bands, etc). Most of downtown Monterey is set up for it. I remember one year they had a Latin band that played all different styles of latin music that was quite popular. Last year they burned a metal frame shaped like a bird full of new years wishes (that fulfilled the pyro in me!). I think they even do fireworks also. So, i might check that out. ---

I’m going to the street party in Edinburgh with my strange Scottish friends so I’m leaving today cos it’s my friend’s birthday tommorrow. I think it’s one of the best ways to spend New Year - last year was incredible lots of live music, fireworks and really friendly people. This year, Moby’s playing at the Castle and there should be lots of video screens, dancers and displays. I would recommend it to anyone so get ready for next year for a trip to the UK! ---

I’ll probably be staying home depressed as hell. If I’m lucky, I’ll take two Trazodone at 10 pm and sleep through the whole thing. Unless… **oldscratch** and **rasa** just called me. Instead of stopping in Chicago for NYE, they decided to keep driving. Currently, they’re in Des Moines. With luck, they might be here for NYE. I’m broke though. I had 4K in travel expenses come due for my company. My #@$#%^! manager sat on my expense report for weeks and only approved it on Tuesday. If he had approved it the Friday before Christmas, I would have received payment today. Now I have to wait 2 more weeks for it. So, I just sent all of my paycheck (and 3/4 of last pay period’s check) to AMEX. Hey, so much for my mortgage and car payments this month. So, I’ll sit at home, clean house and do laundry. I’ve been thinking about building a website, so I might do that. I’ll probably work on my catpipe playing as well. FYI - a catpipe is played much like a bagpipe, but it doesn’t require blowing. You just squeeze gently but firmly. My catpipe weighs 12 1/2 pounds, is covered in grey fur, and is named Sasha. I’ll post some of my compositions to my website if it gets itself built this weekend. 🙂 Happy New Years, all! ---

The kids will have free reign downstairs. **psycat** bought me a fifteen pack of Guinness today at CostCo, as well as a huge thing of brie, a baguette, stuffed grape leaves, smoked salmon and champagne. We’ll probably add some kalamata olives, pistachios (I got a HUGE jar of them for x-mas), and other assorted snacks to that mix. I won’t describe our plans, except to say that watching TV will be a _very_ small part of it… 😃 ---

good luck with watching the mummers, parsnip. there is a strange sort of “no snow in philly” delusion. for a city that gets snow nearly every year, they act like they never saw it before. although center city is one of the few places they actually plow. so plowing the parade route will be priority, along with vets stadium. should everything go well, i will be at the white dog cafe for the early new year’s eve seating with my aunt and cousin. we will also be at the first seating for the pajama brunch on new year’s at the white dog cafe. with tv watching and egg nog between. i’m in the “no one to kiss at midnight club” as well. ---

I’m also in Las Vegas for New Year’s Eve. My youngest sister just moved here last summer, so my other sister and I are spending a week visiting her. We’re having a blast (but I couldn’t resist using some down time to check the SDMB. Uh oh.) 😃 ---

It would seem that when I said earlier that you couldn’t grumble about sitting on the balcony on a warm evening, beer in hand, watching the fireworks, I was wrong. Just add the smell of sewerage on a summers day, as I glumly listen to the plumber (at Sunday/public holiday rates) advise me that after an hours work, the electric eel (?like a Rotorouter?)hasn’t fixed the problem and the sewer pipe may have collapsed. My husband is out buying prawns and other goodies. People are due in less than 2 hours, with children, and we can’t use the toilets. Another successful party ahead, I can tell! ---

My husband and I are having another couple over. I am making lasagna, meatballs and sausage, a salad, and some homemade bread. I am also serving cheese and crackers and assorted finger foods after dinner. We’ll probably have a few drinks and watch a movie or something before 12. Rose ---

I think I’m going to a small (like 5-10 people) party/gathering/whatever. I might go to a party or just stay home. Where I am, however, is irrelevant, because no matter where I happen to be, I’m going to be there, sulking and being depressed out of my mind. New years is hell, but thank fucking god the year is over.
