Fasting one day a week is a good sacrifice. That and giving up meat. Are we going to have a Lenten thread to keep us posted on the righteous and the damned? Just kidding… Going to give up soda, meat and fast one day. But I will curse with more vigor and conviction. OT: my first husband served as an altar boy in his youth and had a running gag about requests for ash artistry on Ash Wednesday. Such as painting a black eye a la Petey from the Our Gang shows, a Groucho Marx mustache and Peter Criss from Kiss. ---

Mr. Lissar gave up caffeine. We’ll see if _I_ make it through to Easter! I’m going to try to cut down on the amount of complaining I do, even- maybe especially- complaining about little things. I’m also going to do at least one hour of housework a day _without complaining_ (see above resolution). And start going to Mass at the church up my street. I’ll try to make it once a week. I’m not part of the Catholic Church yet, but I can go up for the blessing and take part in the service. Some friends of mine have got their Lent cut out for them- they’re becoming Catholic on Easter (first communion) and they just told their parents. One family’s really really upset (they’re Free Brethren and anti-Catholic). ---

I’m going to give up the booze for 40 days. As a side effect to that, I’ll be smoking less too! When I quit drinking and smoking I get VERY energetic. Maybe I’ll lose some weight as a side effect of that. ---

IANAReligious type, but I think giving stuff up occasionaly is a Good Thing, so I have decided to give up deserts, which seems to be popular choice. Good for me, good for the waist (I hope). I wish us all luck. Has anyone cheated yet? ---
