I got her a book she wanted called “Springing Foward” or something like that about Daylight Savings time. And I’ll go home for dinner, if I can. ---

My mother yells at me if I buy her anything, because she feels I have better things to spend my money on than a gift and shipping charges. I always think I’ll send a card, but then I look at the array of Mothers’ Day cards available to me, and even the “funny” ones are _far_ too lame for both her sense of humor and mine. So, Mom gets a phone call–during which she’ll almost certainly say “Oh, it’s Mothers’ Day today?” :rolleyes: Of course, next month, I’ll call and say “Happy Anniversary”, and the phone will go dead quiet–because she _and_ Dad forgot. 🙂 ---

Semi-sweet chocolate covered orange peels from the Belgian Chocolatier for Mom, and sugar-free chocolates for diabetic Grandma. I suppose I’ll get the mother-in-law some chocolates as well, but I like my sister-in-law’s idea better: her very own cross to martyr herself upon. 😃 ---

My mother is very difficult to shop for- doesn’t want anything, hates scents, allergic to a lot of flowers, etc. So I got her a couple types of back massagers. ---

Mom’s getting a purse. I was shopping with my sister, passed a Brighton store, and mentioned how overpriced their purses were, but that mom would probably like one. So sis calls mom, who was flabbergasted (yet excited). So we picked out the least ugly one (and that took forever – I almost had to sit down in the store like a little kid), and mom is getting that. Because it makes her happy, that’s why. ---

I bought my mom a real nice MahJong set. Quick question: Should I buy something (like a card) for her GF? They’ve only been together for a couple years, but she’s recently started treating me like a daughter so I’m a little unsure. 😕 ---

I’m putting flowers on her grave, just like I have for the past 18 Mother’s Days since she died. Since I was born on Mother’s Day, her death pretty much spoiled both that event and my birthday for me. Fortunately, Mrs. Kunilou understands. ---

I’ve sent my mom a book–she’s an avid reader, especially of mysteries. She loves hardbacks but won’t splurge on them for herself. I’m certain she hasn’t read this one, as it’s a writer fairly local to our area (her library wouldn’t have it). I always do more for my MIL, because she’s local and she does the same for me. Plus she has three boys who aren’t very creative gift-givers. This is where I step in. My other “mom” is getting a book (different one) and a shirt from Talbots (she loves seeing the red box). If I can think of something else in the next day, I’d like to add a little something, too. The past few years, my BIL and I have planned out a menu and made dinner for the whole family in her stead, but this year my FIL has arranged some sort of fancified take-out. ---

A little vase of dasies and mini roses, out to eat at the local german resturant (as per tradition) and a night of Karaoke. MIL got flowers delivered. My gift to her was reminding her son to order it. 😃 ---

My mom has gone overboard on Buddhism and doesn’t want anything material. :rolleyes: (I’m sorry, but I’d like to buy her something she really wants, and make her happy). So she asked for: A Gmail invite And an e-card. For my future mother-in-law, I got a really pretty card. We’re going to see her tomorrow and I’ll bring flowers, and we’ll all take her out Sunday and probably take her to Lord & Taylor and buy her some jewelry. Anybody wonder why I like the (potential) new family better? 😃 ---
