Listening to(and watching) A Hard Day’s Night right now. To say that I love it would be a tremendous understatement. ---

I picked the slow, nice songs out of Tom Waits’ album Mule Variations and have been playing those. According to me, the slow, nice songs are: Hold On House Where Nobody Lives Pony Picture in a Frame Georgia Lee Take It With Me Come On Up To The House When all that gets\* too \*slow and nice, I play Macklemore’s Thrift Shop four or five times in a row. ---

Boom, new **Afghan Whigs** album, sixteen years since the last and sounding phenomenal! Standout single: “Matamoros\*\*”: \*\*[Youtube Official Video](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C5et72znyw) or the _even better_ [live performance on Letterman](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF3HCzLqia8). _La Colomba Ferita_, an opera composed in 1670 by Francesco Provenzale, one of the earliest of the Neapolitan School. I heard it for the first time a few days ago and instantly loved it. It’s playing now and it conveys the message to my brain that God’s in his heaven and all’s right with the world. He isn’t, of course, and very little is right with the world, but that’s the power of music.
