OK. But why name the SUV “Mustang”?
I admit I’m no marketer, but to me that just induces confusion or eyerolls. It’s name recognition, but adverse (or at least incongruous) name recognition. Even if it’s supposed to be performant IMO they’d do better to come up with some new name that connotes “roomy and zoomy”.
Oh, I don’t know. i heard a Ford guy talking about it on Jay Leno’s Garage, and he made if not a compelling case for the name, at least a reasonable one. He pointed out that the GT version is faster than a Mustang GT. That my only be in a straight line, but that’s what Muscle cars are for. Through most of Mistang’s lfe, it’s been a wallowing sedan whose only trick was to go fast in a straight line, just like all the other old miscle cars.
New Mistangs have evolved into extrmely good road/race cars, but yoh could argue that they Mach-E is truer to Mistang’s muscle car looks. Hell, it may even handle like one.
I don’t think this is any more of a snub to the Mistang as the Dodge Charger is to the old Chargers. And it’s a hell of a lot truer than those crappy Pinto-based Mustang IIs. The Mustang name has seen more than its share of dreck. The Mach-E is not dreck. It’s a great vehicle, judging by the reviews.
Why are they calling it a Mustang? Because they’re hoping the name will help the car to sell. For the same reason, General Motors is using the name Hummer on its new EV.
More than likely, because they knew it would get people talking about it. If they called it the e-Escape or something, the response would likely have been “ho hum, Ford built an electric SUV”. But because they called it “Mustang”, we’re discussing it. Even if some of that discussion is by people complaining that they shouldn’t have called it a Mustang, that’s still buzz about Ford’s new EV. We wouldn’t be talking about it right now if they’d given it some other name.
More like “There’s darn near no ability to type anything in iPad.”
The Notes app drives me nuts. Between being unable to control where the damn cursor is, spellcheck that’s too intrusive, and their ignorant ideas about casing & keyboard layout, I find the best way to proof/edit a paragraph is simply to retype it a second time below the first attempt, just being a lot more careful. Then I delete the first paragraph. Just like we used to do on typewriters with real paper. Progress? NOT!!
And here’s a completely unasked for update on my new EV. As I don’t have off-street parking, my plan all along has been to do most if not all of my charging at work, which subsidizes the rate. I did all the research and calculations before buying, but I actually brought it in and charged it this week - the big test to see if the real world matched what I researched.
Results:
I charged for 3 hours and 45 minutes while sitting at my desk, adding 90 miles of range for $0.91. Most weeks, I drive less than 90 miles, so I can stay topped up with one 4-hour session/week or less, or $1/week or less. Pretty sweet if you ask me.
That is pretty sweet. You are going to learn that one of the unintended consequences of driving an EV is that you will need to keep some sort of windshield cleaning set up at home because you won’t be stopping off at the gas station any more.
My first post in this thread, though I have been following it.
I’ll admit I’ve been looking at the Mach-E more closely than I have any other electric vehicle so far. Still a bit on the pricy side for me, but I’m starting to think more seriously about going electric.
One month update! We’ve been with our Kona EV for a while now so I thought it was a good time for an update, for those 3 people who might be interested
Current odometer reading is 479 miles (though it had 50 on it to start) and we’ve got a 92% charge right now, which is just about what it had when we drove it off the lot.
I’ve charged it at work 4 times, plus twice briefly (~30 minutes) while we were on the go and found a charger. Total cost for charging has been $4.71. Looks like we’re getting just about 1.1 cent/mile driven in terms of “fueling” costs with my “charge mostly at work” plan.
And I have never enjoyed driving a car as much as this one.
