I found it very difficult to find even two D songs that I liked from the past 24 years. Some of the songs I kinda, sorta was OK with, but maybe it’s more just “I wouldn’t switch the station if that song came on.” Definitely not my favorite letter so far.

I had a similar experience. I thought I’d been stuck in the 70’s-90’s, but found out I had some favorites from artists that produced the bulk of their songs this century (Pink, Gin WIgmore, Imelda May, Beth Hart…), some favorites were still making music into this century (Lucinda Williams, John Prine, Roseanne Cash…) and following some of the YouTube sidebars while looking at these revealed some new favorites (ZZ Ward, Kassi Valazza, Sasha Sloan, Alice Merton…). Throw in remembering some earworms (Despacito was ubiquitous in Europe in 2017!), and I’ve been able to come up with at least 10 for most letters (let’s face it, Q, U, V, and Z are always gonna be hard)
Oh I’m totally into music from this century. I just couldn’t find anything I liked starting with D.

Re: not finding enough songs starting with D:
After going through varying levels of thoroughness with the first few letters, I started going through the songs in my iTunes catalog starting with D and being released after 1999. There were a few false positives (e.g., “Driver 8” was on R.E.M.'s comprehensive box set, so it was listed as a 2011 track), but I ended up putting about 10% of the songs on my long list that weren’t obviously unworthy of nomination.
From there, I went to a few Best Songs of the Decade list. Since most of the lists put the song title in quotes, it’s not hard to find "D on the page and check all the songs fairly quickly. The ones that drew an interest from me got added. I did the same for Wikipedia’s lists of Billboard #1 singles and Grammy winners/nominees.
Then, I went to YouTube to get links to the songs that had a chance to make my list and listen to a few of the songs over again. I made a spreadsheet to keep all the data sorted and generate Markdown to paste here. Finally, I chose my top 5 (two of which I would’ve missed if I hadn’t gone through all that).
Here’s my long list for D. Songs like this were nominated by me; songs like this were nominated by someone else. The top 5 is alphabetical; the next few until “Don’t Stop” are sorted; the others with links are ahead of the ones without.
