Surprised by the non-nominations of “Wait For It” and “White and Nerdy.” I probably should’ve put “Working for the Knife” and the Fever Ray song in the same batch of nominations. Since Fever Ray is a Karin Dreijer solo project and they were in the band The Knife. At least I amuse myself, and that’s what’s important.
I had to look these up – Hamilton and Weird Al, respectively.
As for The Knife – I thought their last album Shaking the Habitual was a timely blend of radical politics, art, and (pun intended) cutting-edge music. (I gave a copy to my uncle and aunt, who practice and explore critiques of the nuclear family – one of the themes of the album.) I meant to include “A Tooth for an Eye” when we did the T’s, but forgot to.
They remind me of an even more out-there St. Vincent.
For some reason I thought “White and Nerdy” had been nominated, as well as “Washing Machine Heart” by Mitski. I think it’s because other songs by them were named.
Any thoughts on musical necromancy? There’s an album of previously unreleased Johnny Cash tracks due to be released, one of which is about…him doing laundry?
