I eat my peas with honey;
I’ve done it all my life.
It makes the peas taste funny,
But it keeps them on the knife.

I detest cheese and won’t eat anything that has even touched cheese EXCEPT pizza, which I could happily eat every day.

I don’t like condiments except for some tomato based ones, like bbq or salsa, but definitely not kethcup. Nor sald dressing of any kind, though I do like salad.

I must have potato chips(or fries) with my sandwich and I’ll eat them strategically so that I finish them at the same time, with the last bite being a chip or fry.

I always eat my cereal dry though I love milk and will usually drink a glass with it(but not on it).

I love butter on my popcorn but nothing else, including toast or pancakes.

I could go on and on but those are the ones that seem to run counter to most peoples’ tastes.

I’m a very “plain” person. I only like pepperoni on pizza, no other toppings. I order all my cheeseburgers “plain and dry”, no toppings, no ketchup or mustard. Same with my hot dogs. Same with tacos, just meat in a shell. I don’t care for a lot of frippery on my food.

I can’t eat cold meat, it gags me. No cold cut sandwiches for me, please. Make it a turkey and Swiss, and heat it up.

My wife doesn’t put salt on anything, even foods that desperately need salt, like pasta and potatoes. She even used to leave it out of recipes that called for it until I pointed out that, for example, a bit of salt in bread is necessary for it to come out right.

Edited to add one more thing about me: I tend to find a “favorite” at a restaurant, and then whenever I go to that restaurant, that’s what I order, and it’s just about unheard of for me to get anything else. So, if I go to Rosa’s Mexican Cantina, I’ll get the chicken fajita burritos. If I go to Carino’s, I’m getting the chicken parmesan. Chili’s, the chicken tenders. Shogun, hibachi chicken, extra fried rice. Subway, a six-inch meatball on Italian herb and cheese bread, with provolone. Every single time.

Can’t drink Apple juice. Too many hospital flashbacks. Just recently stopped eating tortillas chips with my chili. I start and finish one box of cereal before I will start another. I like drinking cereal and milk out of a glass. I won’t drink unsweetened iced tea.

I’m pretty normal, I guess. I can only think of two:

I like peanut butter and pickle sandiches. But the pickles have to be sweet, like bread and butter or gherkins.

I like to eat my foods evenly. When I’m at the end of my meal, there will be one bite of steak, one hunk of potato, and one spear of asparagus left.

I don’t like hamburgers. I mean, I’ll eat them if that’s what we’re having, but if there’s another option I’ll take that. I like plenty of other sandwiches with meat.

I eat everything separately. First the salad, then the vegetables, then the main dish, then the bread, then the dessert.

I love dill pickle juice, too, **mmm** and olive juice.

I have to cook the shit out of any meat I eat. I no longer make my family eat this; I’ve learned to take their’s out when I think it’s “not quite done” but mine has to stay until at least the edges are curling, if not down-right black. That’s because my mother was a haphazard cook/housekeeper. I remember as a toddler getting sick (barfing) regularly from trying to eat what she fixed. I can’t eat cheese except on pizza. That’s because one time I took out a hunk of cheese from the refrigerator and took a big bite. I didn’t know that it wasn’t **supposed** to be covered with a green, furry mold…

Here’s a drink recipe you might like, **mmm**. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m gonna go to that bar where it was concocted and get me one:
The Dillinger
(created at the 5 1/2 Bar in beautiful downtown mumblemuble FL panhandle)

pickle juice
cider vinegar
Hendricks gin
mashed cucumber
a squeeze of lemon-lime

Served with fresh cracked black pepprer on top.
Licking my lips.

I like Hostess chocolate cupcakes, but almost the only time I eat them is when I have a cold, when I get a real craving for them. And for each cupcake I peel off the icing and eat it last to get the burst of flavor.

Pickle juice is also good for combating acid reflux and heartburn. Drink a bit and your stomach gets the message that it’s already produced enough acid and will slow down production. An ex-roommate swears by this.

Similarly …

I hate fresh tomatoes. I love tomato flavour. I love tomato based sauces. I even love sun dried tomatoes. Hell, I can happily eat tomato purée straight out of the tube.

But I just cannot eat fresh tomatoes.

It is all in the texture.

I have very little concept of food temperature, or why it’s supposedly gross to eat lukewarm/cool food that’s supposed to be hot. cold burgers, cold fries, cold pizza, cold lasagna, cold chinese food - it all tastes the same cold and hot, right? I rarely really heat up leftovers, or if I do, I might throw them in the microwave for 30 seconds and eat them luke warm. I’ve been told this is gross.

I love soda (in fact until a few months ago I used to have the equivalent of a “small” fast food soda everyday, though not as a substitute for water, but coffee/tea due to laziness and habit). However, colas are the only type of soda I like, and its not like most people who prefer colas but may still be open to other types of soda. Pretty much everything else I’ve tried tasted disgusting to me.

I’m about the reverse. I can eat fresh tomatoes like an apple, as long its not mushy or mealy. But I don’t like cooked tomatoes. I like tomatoes sauce though.

Besides not liking soda because its too sweet, I don’t like carbonation. If I drink a hard cider or hard lemonade that’s carbonated I’ll wait for it to go flat (mostly - I’m too impatient to wait). I’m sort of getting over that one.

Does it still? I know it did many years ago, but these days I put my cereal in a plastic container and throw out the cardboard box as soon as I get it home.

Anyway, my wife’s not a big Shredded Wheat fan, but she’s the one who called me weird for eating it hot. It’s not a subject that comes up much in conversations outside the kitchen, so I began to wonder how many people really do eat it that way.
