I would have to say South Park\* and 80’s comedies like Porky’s, Revenge of the Nerds & Airplane. (All the originals). I’ll watch Scooby Doo with my kids. The original and the Newest series. But they are off the air again. For Books: I still occasionally read Piers Anthony. Pure crap but very readable. For music I love Dexy’s Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen, does that count? Jim - Sounds like you might not count South Park or the Simpsons as they mix Low Brow and High Brow. I don’t watch much TV outside of Baseball & Football. No reality TV at all. Baseball is my Reality TV show. 😉 ---

Didn’t Beverly Hills Cop II show the superglue fingerprinting trick first? 🙂 Ok, perhaps it’s a bit harsh to call CSI ‘lowbrow’ but for some reason I’d hesitate to tell people that I own the first three series on DVD and plan to get more. Being a computer scientist it does pain me for them to ‘enhance’ grainy, black and white CCTV image into Hi-Def quality footage with their ‘special algorithms’ but I can put up with that for a handful of shows per season. I can appreciate the writers speeding up things like trace analysis and DNA tests for time constraints, but sometimes the science gets too ridiculous. Still, I do love the show, if not for the crimes themselves then for the characters and their chemistry (the interaction kind, not the test-tube kind). I love it when the writers get into non-occupational issues (Warrick’s gambling, Grissom’s hearing, Sara’s lack of a life etc.) although IMO they could do this more often. And anything that isn’t reality TV and gets people interested in science is definitely A Good Thing ™. That said, my inner snob still classifies my CSI viewing as a ‘guilty pleasure’ 😉 ---

I’m a sucker for all make over shows whether they’re making over a person or a kitchen or both I just love to watch these. What Not to Wear, How Do I Look, Ambush Makeover, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Kitchen Makeover, Clean Sweep, While You Were Out…I’ll watch them all day long. And Groundhog Day. I can just watch that movie again and again. I have no idea why, I just never get sick of it. And America’s Funniest Videos. I don’t go out of my way to watch it but if my daughter has it on I’m usually right there with her laughing my ass off. (she watches Cops too but I’m not such a fan) And count me among the CSI fans though I don’t really consider that low-brow so much. ---

MTV reality shows. I am addicted to the Real World/ Road Rules and their spawn. I worship the Miz, and hope to be able to bitchslap Trishelle someday. **Connie and Carla**. Nia Vardalos’ follow up to My Big Fat Greek Wedding is all that and more. David Duchovny, drag queens, Debbie Reynolds, and the Victor/Victoria thing (a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman) times two. I think I would follow Toni Collette into film purgatory. I love this movie. Honestly, if it is cheezy and campy, I am so there. BTW **Sampiro** , a local theater group is doing the **Sordid Lives** stage play. **Jayjay** and I will definitely be there. 😃 ---

Last night I set TiVo to record next week’s movie _Fatal Contact: Avian Flu in America_ on ABC. The preview makes it look hilariously stupid; I hope it’s the epidemiological equivalent of _10.5._ If it’s half as funny as _Outbreak_ it’ll be worth watching. I just don’t want it to be, y’know, earnest, and bad in a pedestrian way. It needs to be _stupid._ The preview gives me high hopes; the quiet hysteria of that blonde woman saying “there is no escape” gave me giggle fits for minutes. And if I had a cell phone, I would want Stacy Keach’s line “The avian flu… _is here_” as my ring tone. I just hope the movie lives down to these expectations. If it’s plain typical-bad, I’ll turn it off after 20 minutes. (And then I hope my mother calls me the next day. “So, this avian flu thing… Do you know anything about it? Is it really that serious?” …so I can respond, “Yes, mom, it’s very serious. The government is covering it up, and it’s going to be really bad. One of the early symptoms is dry skin on the back of your hands. Look at your hands. Is there any dryness on the skin on the back? Also, has your employer made any announcements about changes in your benefits plans recently? They probably know about it too…”) So yeah, I have a weakness for crap disaster movies. I have _Dante’s Peak_ and _Volcano_ on VHS. Pure comedy.
