Foodwise, I get cravings for bad Chinese food, the kind that you get from nasty looking places that serve things other than Chinese. Luckily, my neighborhood has an abundance of these. My favorite place will sell Chinese, gyros, cheeseburgers, and fried chicken. It is a counter where the service people are behind a plexiglass screen. ---

Okay, nice to know I’m not the only sucker for “101 Really Dumb Things You Could Not Possibly Care About And You’ll Never Get These Five Hours Back” and its ilk…because once I stop for a second I’m slaved in for the duration… I Love The 1880s, Best Jelly Sex Toys You Had As A Child, Most Visible Panty Lines, Celebrity Lip Skids, you name it and I’ll watch it, and not just once, but all the reruns and multiple airings, I am a whore… HGTV is the Crack Channel as far as I’m concerned. Paint it, faux finish it, landscape it, repair it, grow petunias in it, glue beads to it, reupholster it, pick it up off the side of the road and stuff it, whatever–I’ll watch the lot. Terrible gore fest horror movies, the more awful the better. I about had a panty splash over the Rob Zombie Netflix double feature, 13 Ghosts I’ll watch any time it’s on, Saw, Hostel, fine & dandy and bring it on, beeyatch! Jalapeno Poppers and ranch dressing. Just shameful, is all… Don’t know if these count as lowbrow or not, but I’m a complete freak for all those Public Broadcasting short series featuring anachronistic living–1900 House, Pioneer House, the Viking and Celt ones, all those shows I’m helpless to resist. I’d turn down a date with George Clooney if it meant missing out on a critical episode… Well, capture cards mean I could have George AND the show–so hey, George, call me! Mindless potato chip books featuring plucky working class heroines finding the right guy amidst wacky situations–usually with weird pastel 50s-60s styled covers that make Steele Savage look like Rembrandt. Love these things… Red Dress Books kind of stuff, a lot of it’s from the UK. Trader Joe’s fruit jellies, those bastards saw me coming! Road food. Stuff you get from non-chain C-store “delis” that has to be eaten with one hand while driving–extra points for managing multiple dipping sauces without a navigator. Teriyaki skewers, tater wedges, chicken strips, fried tube food of many nameless types and flavors… Mercedes Lackey. Little Debbie orange cupcakes. They’re hexagonal, it’s an imperative! ICP? Yeah, me too… 😛 ---

Whoo…deep breath… I occasionally watch **The Price Is Right** and feel really happy when people win, with a big grin on my face; “You GO, Girl!!! Good for you!” And I’ll actively play the pricing games, especially the final Showcase Showdown. I don’t buy most of that stuff, but am pretty good at pricing it, not that it’s a brainiac competition. I just love it when the contestants win. I think it comes from a time in early childhood when my parents were at great odds, and I would watch **Let’s Make A Deal** with wonderful Mexican housekeeper Juana, who would get screaming excited over the show, and smile, hug us and love it when people won. Bob Barker makes me uneasy, though. ---

Maybe I should wear dark glasses and a trench coat whilst I spill about my guilty lowbrow pleasures. Food: Much as it shames me to admit it, my childhood reaches forward into my present, and I occasionally crave a bologna and cheese sandwich on Wonder bread dressed with mustard and mayo and dill pickle chips. Movies: I will watch Evolution over and over again, and laugh my ass off the whole time. “Ca- caw?” Television: If sick at home, I will watch E! True Hollywood Stories. I loved the one about Jane Russell. Music: Cyndi Lauper. I am so ashamed. Books: I will read David Eddings (The Elenium, The Tamulii, The Belgariad, The Mallorean) over and over again. ---

Some of Mel Brooks’s stuff, although his lowest-brow stuff doesn’t usually do it for me. Spinal Tap is pretty low-brow, or at least the songs usually are, and for the last few days I’ve been thinking of their song “Heavy Duty” and laughing. The chorus goes “Heavy, duty Heavy duty rock and roll Heavy duty Brings out the duty in my soul.” 😃 ---

It changes from moment to moment. Some parts of _Tap_ are detailed satires of sixties and seventies rock music (ditto _A Mighty Wind_ and folk music of the same period), and other bits are funny without any explanation. And “the duty in my soul” doesn’t need any explanation. ---

_looks around_ I’m a \Blind Date\ addict. It’s like watching trainwreck after trainwreck in slow motion 😃 Heck, I’ll expand on that. I’m a reality-TV show addict. I used to be a \Real World\ junkie up until San Diego, but I stopped watching because it’s now parodying itself. But yeah, give me \Fear Factor\, any of the reality shows on Discover and A&E, and a pinch of TLC, and I’m a happy woman. I also love makeover shows. Sometimes I wonder if I should just leave HGTV on 24/7. For readiong, nothing beats a \Weekly World News\! ---

American Hot Rod (though practically everyone involved is an asshole, except for the great guys who do the upholstery…they’re why I watch the show).
