I’m a huge **Three Stooges** and **Benny Hill** fan. **Mrs. Fresh** quite often tells me that she wishes I had told her this before we got married. In any case, she complains when I watch Benny Hill, and I’m not allowed to watch The Three Stooges at all when she’s in the same room.

She keeps asking me why I love the Stooges, and I keep trying to explain to her that a man can outgrow a lot of things. I’ve outgrown Steven King novels, Monty Python, Blackadder, and even Mr. Bean. But a man cannot outgrow 50-year-old Jewish guys slapping each other in the head and acting like four-year-olds any more than he can outgrow breating. _That’s_ primal. Grasping, sucking, and the Three Stooges, those are the instincts of the guy.

I love, and I mean **love** , _Dog the Bounty Hunter_. I love his skanky wife. I adore his goofy son Leland. I’d cheerfully marry his stoic brother Tim. I’ve given up on counting how many kids these people have between them. Nothing makes me happier than seeing Dog manfully aim a bottle of mace at a perp while Tim scales a board fence and Beth runs in on her spike heels and screams at the meth-head wife. I DVR Dog, and my boyfriend and I save him up for special occaisions (when we order pizza.) In fact, now I can’t seperate the two at all - pizza and Dog. Mmm.

I also love _Dirty Jobs_ but don’t consider it low-brow - it’s amazingly educational.

I buy every new Stephen King book the day it comes out, whether it’s good, bad, or indifferent. I don’t care, I just love the guy.

I have, on occaision, gone through romance novel periods. I get bored with it eventually, but every few years for two or three weeks I just devour the things. I read one with a _talking whale_ in it. A talking whale! And a time travelling Viking, for pity’s sake! In the same I just wish you could tell how hot and steamy the sex was in them before you picked them up - I don’t want to go shopping for romance novels with a list, I just want, say, a tongue rating on the back of the book or something. Some people like a two tongue read, some people prefer theirs at the nine or ten level.

I started reading my mom’s issues of Star and Globe when I was in junior high, and I just can’t stop. She saves them for me, so now when I go home every couple of months I’m greeted with a foot-high stack of glorious, glorious trash journalism. I can claim a sociological interest in them (what does it say for the state of GLBT acceptance that Ellen DeGeneres is now featured right alongside the guys who dump their wives/girlfriends for younger women and want them to have kids rightnow?) but mostly I just enjoy reading about scandals and gossip.

I love Miami Ink, but I never realized until now it was considered lowbrow.

I love most of Adam Sandler’s movies, especially 50 First Dates. Which I’m going to pop into the DVD player now.

_Tommy Boy_. It’s just so damned sweet in the end.

That 70’s Show

Pork rinds and the cheese/sausage combinations you find in gas stations. I’m never anything as strict as a diet, but I attempt to eat stuff that’s isn’t utter crap most of the time. I’m released from my dietary restrictions when I travel, so I get to indulge in gas-station delicacies.

Roy D. Mercer? Yeah, he can be really funny, especially the folks who get so angry they start making threats.

A&E! It’s, er, more E than A. He acts like this big tough guy, but he cries all the time. Also, he’s got the softest heart in the whole wide world, and he’s always trying to bring the criminals to Jesus. You really have to watch it to understand. Plus, bad fashion orgy!

I used to like wrestling, back in the day when it was Mr. Wrestling 1 and Mr. Wrestling 2 vs. Bob Armstrong, all of them serioiusly overweight guys with flabby arms. They were fun, because their wrestling was so … um, wrong.

Aw man, do you remember Assassin #1 and Assasin #2, the villians of the wrestling world??? Classic stuff.

I think on whatever program I watched, they were occasional guest villains, hardly the mainstays that were Mr. Wrestlings Nos. 1 and 2 (who were also villains).

> For that matter, I love pulp magazine fiction in general. Doc Savage, the Avenger (I just finished re-reading \* The Frosted Death \* for the 7th or 8th time) the Shadow, the Phantom Detective, the Spider, Fu Manchu\*, Operator 5, Secret Agent X, G-8 and his Battle Aces … seems to me I read or re-read two or three of these things a month. I don’t care about the hackneyed stories, the absurd plot devices or the racial and ethnic stereotypes so crude as to make a Klansman blush. I don’t even care if the story makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, as very often happens with the Spider. I can’t get enough of this stuff. Wanna keep me occupied and outta yer hair? Gimme a stack of Doc Savage paperbacks or some Spider reprints…

Hear, hear.

I own a load of those Doc Savage reprints, and I am currently plowing thru “Chessmen of Mars” for the third time. And I reread “The Scarlet Citadel” again yesterday while I was baking.

I’m so ashamed.

Shodan

The funny thing is I never watch it at work (we all have tv’s on our desks and can have whatever we want on), I guess because I’d be wanting to pay attention. All the skanky goodness is lost if you can’t actually stare at these people while they try to pull one over on the good judges.

I’m the exact same way… Judge Judy, The People’s Court, Judge Alex, Texas Justice… I have no idea why I can sit through all of em in one day, but if I catch one, chances are, I’ll watch em all…

God I love days off! 😃

[Hijack]How many court shows _are there_ now? A couple of years ago when I was home sick with a flu or something like it I was amazed at how one went off, another came on and literally this was for hours and sometimes on more than one station. Divorce Court, People’s Court, Judge Joe Brown (my personal favorite), Judge Judy (I could learn to actively despise that woman), Morals Court (actual one), Pet Court (with _Judge Wopner_ no less!), pissed-off-ebonics-spouting-black-lady-judge-court, holier-than-thou-effeminate-seeming-white-guy-judge-court, etc. etc…

Is this a uniquely American phenom or do other countries have such a huge number of court shows? Now _that_ would be an interesting- an English court TV show (and even educational as a crash course in English v. American justice) or even Canadian (because I honestly have no idea, embarassing as it may be, whether a Canadian courtroom would be run more like an English, French or American one).[/HIJACK]
