Some years we go see friends upcountry. Other years we stay home and watch Bangkok’s beautiful citywide fireworks displays (plural, they’re all over the place) from atop the roof of our 36-story building in the center of the city. This year will be the latter. Great view. ---

Going to a masquerade party, buffet supper, hotel room and breakfast the next day included so we park early and be set for the evening. It will be the first big party I’ve gone to on NYE, usually it’s tacos for supper and a movie and bed before midnight. Occasionally it’s been family friendly first night parties, and once very long ago a night out at a bar with a friend, so it should be fun. 🙂 ---

We’re planning to go out for an early dinner, and then possibly play some games at my sister’s house. Hopefully we won’t have my sister’s asshole friends inflicted on us (I’m a little less than thrilled about this - we invited my sister and brother-in-law out for dinner, and all of a sudden, she has invited a mess of people that we don’t actually like. More is usually merrier, except this is the group that I posted about before - the ones who don’t actually speak to us.) Fingers crossed that they’re all busy! ---

Work a 12-hr shift NYE, be in bed with earplugs by 9:30pm, up at 4:30am for another 12-hr NYD. I might get a little fun by wearing some crazy looking earrings. Woo Hoo! ---

Was supposed to go to a big gala downtown, but my stunning date had a sudden family emergency that is keeping her out of town. ☹ So I managed to sell my tickets at cost, and I’m going to order a pizza and watch insufferably saccharine movies with my mom and grandparents, along with a Senators game on TV! Just as well, since I have organ duties Sunday morning. ---

I will be hanging out at home supervising a slumber party of nine year old boys. I don’t imagine it will be a lot of fun for me, but I’m optimistic that the kids will have a good time. ---

Update (because I know you’re all hanging on the edge of your seats): My sister’s asshole friends acted kind of dickish on Facebook, and it looks like none of them want to come out for dinner where we’re going. They don’t like what _we’re_ planning to do, but they have no other alternatives. My heart is not broken. 🙂 ---

My friends invited me to go drink with them in their neighborhood then crash in the bed of whoever leaves theirs empty but I’m not feeling it. I’ve been off work for a week and have crammed in so much “doing” that I think I’m gonna prefer to stay home and clean the house and get some sleep. ---

Food! I _want_ to go downtown and watch the Pelican Drop. It’s a Gulf of Mexico, Emerald Coast kind of homage…we’ve got pelicans everywhere. But I won’t. I can’t walk very far, and can’t sit for very long at a time even if I take my lawn chair. So…we’re having shrimp scampi. With beef kabobs and veggie kabobs and wild rice. Then I’ll watch Dick Clark’s (omg can he still walk and isn’t his face melting?) celebration and probably get online and see what the Dopers are up to. Once, at the underground home of a friend, (remember when those were green before that color had even been selected as a movement?) our host went outside and fired off a muskat at midnight. I know because I heard it’s blast from the bottom bunk of his kid’s bed. I was there because I was contemplating the wisdon of imbibing so much tequila. Tequila always makes me crazy. But Saturday night it’s going to be food. And my usual vodka. And hopefully, I’ll like the musical guests at Time’s Square. ---

I hate driving around New Year’s Eve so I voted that I’d stay home but my friends called me to go to the local Ruth Chris so I might go. Of course I’d drive only to the friend’s house and they are driving. I have no idea what Ruth Chris is doing for the eve or whether they will open through midnight. It (the bar) has been our local hangout place for a few years (though I haven’t been there lately) so we know all the staffs and some of the regulars there. There are a few nifty bars around there that we know the owners and staffs as well so we’ll probably hang out with them and see what happens. I generally avoid doing things on New Year’s Eve unless we have a place to stay overnight without having to drive home. ---
