My mom is going to be 70 this year and is still worried about the way she looks. I’ve decided, the hell with that. I 've decided I’m going to wear what ever I want, you can suck it. I am a size twelve, probable what used to be a size 16 before vanity sizes. Heck may even get a bikini to wear in my next year. It will be the first time in 30 years I’ve owned one. I’m tired of not liking my body ,and being fat shamed. I’m weep for all the girls that will be ignored by society because they are not the ideal weight. I am a person with feelings and ideas, and things to talk about and I’m tired of being invisible because of my weight. So no I will not spare you the indignity of having to see me in tight clothes, because frankly I don’t care anymore what any of you think.

This pretty much sums up why I’m a fan of fat people dressing in form-fitting clothes. Feeling shame is a horrible way to go through life.

GO for it.
I have _never_ understood the whole fat-shaming thing the OP espouses. Nor do I care what other people wear or how they look; how shallow is that?

One of my best friends is also a nudist (as am I). She is extremely obese but feels very comfortable being completely naked in a non-judgemental setting and says that it has probably been the number-one reason she does not actually hate her body. She learned that once the clothing filter was removed people dealt with her on a much more honest basis.

I suppose doubleplus-sized customers may not, ah, gravitate toward outdoor gear stores for their clothing purchases, but I’ve had similar experiences just trying to buy jeans in regular department stores. Discrimination against the mid-to-large, I tell you!

Try finding pants with a 58" waist in a department store. Or 3XL T-shirts so I can make sure my ass is covered. They don’t have those sizes at Wal-Mart or Target last time I looked. And no, I don’t have the time or inclination to drive around to specialty stores.

> [@kopek](#):

> Missed this first time through. 2 through 5XL try a Harley shop if you’re male; worse comes to worse you can sometimes trim off the patch and their stuff wears as good as it looks. I got a jacket from the mid 80s that looks as good as ever. Ignore the “new” stuff and haunt the clearance racks. Find a HOG member and get his old atlas for when you travel. You will be a fashion hit in no time.
>
> If you are female forget I even mentioned it. The MotherCompany thinks every woman out there is a tramp sized 2 or less.

I never considered a Harley shop. But then, I’ve never ridden a motorcycle in my life, so the notion never occurred to me. And I like just wearing casual clothes. T-shirt and jeans. I know my sizes and would rather just buy my clothes online and have Fed-Ex drop them off at my front door rather than run around looking for a specialty clothing shop.

I made an observation and expressed it. No doubt you have surprising cites that will demonstrate that I am wrong. Such as the decline in the obesity rate, and the positive correlation between body fat and personal worth. Of course, you can win with me. Just demonstrate that I am wrong with something more tangible than a contrasting opinion and a personal attack and a WAG about what I “really mean”…

Best Korea is a [meme](http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/justin-bieber-to-north-korea) for North Korea. North Korea, by the way, had a [TV show](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let%27s_trim_our_hair_in_accordance_with_the_socialist_lifestyle) to shame people into getting haircuts.

People in Seoul dress like Westerners, at least if my Google image search is accurate.

You expressed assumptions (and expressed them as if they were facts) that I challenged, so if we are going to ask for cites then it’s on you first. If you had said as much as “it seems to me” then I wouldn’t have bothered responding, as everyone would already understand that these were over-reaching observations based on your limited experience (and some extrapolation, otherwise I have no idea what you are using for evidence that most fat people are gaining weight).

I too am fat, and could well afford to lose 50 lbs. However I wear my clothes one size too big, and never wear t-shirts! My tops are mainly cotton and yes I have to iron several of them. I had a nasty surgery a few years ago that cut me from just under the boobs to the belly button, it cut the nerves so I very definitely have a roll. I wouldn’t show that to anyone . No one guesses how much I weigh including my doctor who responded to my statement about being fat “You aren’t fat” he said to me. Then I am almost 75 years old, I was always very thin until I was well into my 50’s. I still wore my clothes one size too big, because then as now I simply can’t stand anything tight around my waist. I try to hide the fat not show it off.

Shops love (seriously – I’m not trying to joke at all) people who just come in for the clothes. The clothing and branding is what really bailed the company out after Willie G and friends bought it from AMF. There are even shops out there that don’t sell any motorcycles at all – aren’t allowed to even. They are just another form of LL Bean or American Eagle. They just realize their usual visitor may be under 6 foot and close to 300 lbs or more.

See what’s being offered online or through eBay. It’s good stuff as it is ---- great stuff when you can find it cheap.

> There’s a difference between “tight/ form fitting clothes” and “poorly fitting because I grew out of them” clothes. You cannot buy a pair of very large women’s bottoms in a style that is not form-fitting at any sort of fashion store (Lane Bryant, Torrid, Avenue). You can buy some flowing skirts or flared jeans but above the flares those jeans are going to be skin tight. “Jeggings” and “skinny jeans” are in now, and whether they look good on women of size or not, they are being marketed to us. Because they are what is in for everyone else.
>
> I got no problem with fat women wearing skin-tight clothes. I get in a bathing suit every day and go out in public [to swim] and I don’t care because people think I’m fat and disgusting whether I am wearing a flowing mumu or baggy jeans or a clingy camisole. Just because my shorts cling to my ass because The Fashion Industry has decided this is what we do now honestly does not make anyone think any more highly of me. Well hopefully since I have this great Tighter Tummy Technology holding in my gut 2cm more than usual, you think I’m slightly less gross. But really when you go home and type on your message board about the ugly fat broad you saw today you are going to do it whether or not you saw me in a tight shirt or a bathing suit or a 5XL plain brown tee.
>
> Now, dudes who wear too-tight pants with their guts and butts hanging out? Not nice. Women who GIVE themselves muffin-top because they want to get one more month out of those shorts? Sad for you, sweetie. Someone at the beach who should have looked in the mirror before deciding the suit fit, a little scary.
>
> But people who wear clean, form-fitting clothes because it makes them feel good, whatever their size? Good to go.

In fact she had a sharp tongue and we did not get along. She was in the Thespians. She and I had a friend in common–another Thespian–the lovely girl I have mentioned numerous times on the SDMB.

The spandex is a real problem. If I buy a 1 or 2x shirt and io has 10% spandex now it is clingy. I don’t want to wear baggy clotheds but I have never liked clothes clinging tightly time. Plus I think sometimes people just make up sizes. I clearly remember buying a beautiful 2x shirt online and trying it on and it was like an XL at best…but I wear a 1x jacket and it is a bit loose and baggy on me. Everything must be tried on first and it makes no sense to me why large people clothes must be cingy.

I’ve never been even remotely overweight, yet people feel compelled to analyze and critique my sartorial choices too. My clothes are “too big,” inappropriate for my gender, and I don’t wear the “correct” undergarments. I just do not get what it is like to be the kind of person who thinks it is any of their business what others are wearing. If random people’s clothes offend you, you’re the one with a real problem. I can slip into a new outfit any time, but being a busybody is harder to cure.
