Not that there is anything particularly wrong with snobbery - I started a thread on it a while back, and I’ll have you know it was a far superior thread compared to the the typical jumble of words prancing around the message boards calling themselves threads. Ultimately we will probably not agree on this issue. You are saying that the opinion of this person is inferior because of what he does for a living - there is no ambiguity on that point. If a person is highly accomplished, has good enough fortune to not have to work at all, etc., then is their opinion more meaningful somehow? Therein lies the essence of snobbery. Now I can also see what you are trying to get at with saying he should be more sympathetic because of the position he is in - but I see that as a bit of a stretch.

Maybe some of them optimistically view their current weight as temporary because they plan on losing 40 pounds within the next year, making the purchase of a larger wardrobe an unnecessary expense.

No, he’s saying that a member of a group often considered inherently inferior because of an external facet like employment might have a bit more insight into just how stupid and obnoxious it is to consider people inherently inferior over some external facet of their being like their size.

Exactly.
**Incubus** comes across as an arrogant snob. An arrogant snob that has good cause to be an arrogant snob is one thing. They’re a jerk, but at least they are an _understandable_ jerk. So it’s a real head-scratcher when this attitude appears in a average Joe Blow with an average Joe Blow life.
So the best explanation that I can come up with is that he’s highly insecure about himself. Not because of his job, but because that’s just how he is. People who feel good about themselves are too preoccupied to notice or care about the things he does.

That’s exactly why I was surprised. I have appropriate respect for bus drivers and anyone else who performs an essential service. But the way **Incubus** was talking, I assumed he had a completely different sort of job, like being the model for Michelangelo’s David or something.

So, what you are saying is that it is understandable to be a jerk if someone has a certain position in life? Personally for me if someone is a jerk they are a jerk nothing else about them is particularly relevant, it is just a very a different way of looking at the situation - no better or worse I would say, just different.

I can understand why immensely rich people become jerks. I don’t like it, but I can understand it. When everyone around you is riding your gravy train and out of self interest neglects to tell you you’re being a jerk - indeed when you act jerkish, they laugh and tell you how clever and awesome you are so you buy another round of drinks - acting like an entitled asshole who looks down on others is understandable. Not acceptable, but understandable.

This is exactly how I think a lot of overweight people who are judgemental think. It’s like they think if they are catty about others then at least they can feel good about them selves.
While ill fitting clothes do not look good on any one, it’s not our business why they are being worn. It does not matter though if one wears a mumu or a bikini.if you are overweight there is no hiding it. Big clothes just make you look bigger. I dress nice,but I’m not going to wear baggy clothing just in case someone sees I have a round belly. Life is too short and I refuse to waste anymore time on body shame.
It’s easy to tell another person to put down the fork and get more active.I say until you have walked in their shoes and have lived their life, how dare you presume to know why someone looks the way they do.

It is because they are lazy. Not so much because they don’t care; they do care. They get defensive about it when attention is drawn to the fact.
What’s easier? Wearing pants that don’t have your gunt hanging out or magically forcing everybody on the planet to be okay with it?

What the hell do you want from them? They don’t answer to you. Why don’t you focus your ire on people who are actively and purposely inflicting harm on others? If the people who are not fit and trim clotheshorses are a real problem in your world–if that’s what a “problem” looks like to you–take a look in the mirror.
