I’m seriously torn about watching this - I have it in my Hulu watchlist, but I’m so far ahead in the fan-translations of the printed version (I also have 2 bound editions of the printed, officially translated version) that I think I’d be wanting more, and pissed about the inevitable cuts.
And the teeth grinding moment from the twist after having read it a dozen times. Good storytelling, but teeth grinding.
My top anime would have to be:
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood - I love the grand scale of it, the characters and all of it, I also liked the other FMA but it pales in comparison IMO.
Future Diary - There was something about it that was deeply tragic, that and the mystery and the twists and turns just had me in a grip.
Gurren Lagann - I watched this at a dark time in my life and it helped me. Very inspirational story about moving on, and never giving up ect.
Attack On Titan - This story marinated with me over the course of 8 years, as my world view grew the story just resonated more and more with me.
And for some reason my brain categorizes 100+ episode anime differently. But I’d like to add Dragon Ball Z ,Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Naruto.
Also I prefer to read manga more than anime because I enjoy the artists… well art. So my favorite mangas:
Tokyo Ghoul/Choujin X - I started with the anime and loved it, only to find that the manga is much better! (Give us a better anime adaptation!) Also Ishida Sui’s watercolor cover art is phenomenal.
Chainsaw Man - Just need to get past the ridiculous motivations behind the MC in the beginning and it is truly exceptional in the story it is telling. And I deeply love Fujimoto’s art style.
Berserk - I like the 1997 anime and the movies are good in a vacuum. This manga will go down as certainly one of the best of all time and for a reason. The Conviction Arc is one of my favorite arcs in all of fiction. RIP Miura. I still haven’t read his last few chapters cause I am just not ready for it to be over.
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure - Araki is the only mangaka to be featured in The Louvre for a reason.
As well as anything by Junji Ito and Tite Kubo
