What band or artist, can you appreciate but don’t like

Yup. We did the Paisley Palace tour and I came to appreciate his artistry and dedication to his craft, but I can’t stand his voice and most of his songs are juvenile.

Dave Matthews Band: Talented musicians, but I just don’t like his voice.

Neil Young. Powerful, moving lyrics. But I just don’t like his voice.

To be honest, I find Coldplay’s music dull as hell for the most part. Their orchestration/arranging is quite good, though. But overall pretty pedestrian. I honestly don’t hear anything special there and the comparisons to Radiohead, especially early on, flummox me.

Totally agree,

Also, for me, Cream. No doubt incredibly talented. Just not my taste.

As an (amateur) drummer, I am really inspired and impressed by the long solos of past greats like Buddy Rich or newer talents like Greyson Kekrutman.

I also find it a chore listening to one of these solos all the way through. Let alone a whole performance.

Yes. I can tell the members are talented, but Anderson’s shrill vocals ruin their music for me.

Barbra Streisand and Celine Dionne- Yeah, they sing well, but the songs they choose to sing bore me to tears if I’m forced to hear one. The songs are also completely non-catchy and unmemorable. I probably couldn’t recite more than one line from any of their songs. They’re totally forgettable elevator music to my ears.

Thanks for typing this out so I didn’t have to.

I’m going to say Frank Zappa. I appreciate the complexity and inventiveness of his compositions, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song by him that I actually would want to hear a second time.

For the life me, I just don’t get why so many people are irked by Springsteen’s voice. I think he has a fine voice, but the singers I listen to can be pretty technically awful. But even putting that aside, back in my “singers gotta know how to sing” days, nothing about his voice strikes me as off-putting. I get Geddy Lee. I get Dave Matthews. I’d get Billy Corgan if someone mentioned him. I obviously get Dylan. But Springsteen? It’s a little gritty, but that’s good for the image he’s projecting. I don’t have a single album of his, but he’s got kind of an iconic rock voice to me.

Steely Dan. I just find them annoying.

Radiohead. I guess Creep is okay (and, from what I’ve heard, they don’t like the song) but everything else is just “Eh” to me. They’ve been getting airplay on stations I’ve listened to since my college days though and are spoken of with great respect so obviously I just don’t get it.

Definitely Rush. Hate Geddy Lee’s voice. Don’t like their lyrics, and I think they’re too proggy for me. Also, obviously incredible musicians.

There are a lot of virtuoso guitar players that just don’t remotely move me. Steve Vai or Yngwie Malmsteen are as technically proficient as you can get, but they’re so damn boring. SRV had more emotion in his farts than they had in their careers.

The Grateful Dead I don’t even appreciate. I’m not musically inclined/have a bad ear, but I dislike them and don’t understand why anyone would voluntarily listen to them.

Zamfir.

I respect the dedication and skill he has to become The Master of the Pan Flute. But I really do NOT like about his music.

I was watching Rick Beato analyzing “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac and all the things that went into making the song great. And I realized they really are (or were) a phenomenally accomplished band. I just don’t care to listen to them very much.

I had a roommate in my first attempt at college who owned one and only one 8-track (yes, that long ago) and it was “Rumors” and he just kept playing it. But I wasn’t overly fond of them even before that.

That is a beautiful picture  and an accurate description.
When I read the thread title I was going to write Roger Waters, because he is a despicable person I really do not like, though he has made or at least contributed to some amazing music. But that is not what the OP meant, so I am going to settle for Phil Collins. His music, his voice and his arrangements make me gag.

Definitely Rush for me. Proficient but unimaginative; when they come on, I can’t make to the end of the song; it bores me silly.

To a much lesser degree, Tom Petty. I respect his talent, but his songs just don’t grab me.

Pretty much anything that would be designated “jazz”.

I don’t doubt that many of the people involved are, by any reasonable metric, “talented”.
I just wish they’d use that talent for sometthing that didn’t make me want to run screaming from the room,

My pick as well. Mega respect for Dylan, his legacy, and influence. But his delivery grates, and I find his musical choices meh.

If it makes him feel better when you run into him, tell him I tend to enjoy talented performers’ Dylan covers.

I like punk. The Ramones do absolutely nothing for me.

Dave Grohl … I love him as a person… he always does good, kind things. He is also a very good musician… but damn… the screaming annoys me.
