What big celebrities live in surprisingly "out of the way" places?

Arlo Guthrie lives in the Stockbridge, MA area. He eventually bought the church where Alice and Ray (and Facha) lived, but he doesn’t live there.
David Bromberg lives in Wilmington, DE.

Wikipedia says,

Harrison Ford lives in Wyoming.

John Mellencamp lives in Southern Indiana. I’m not sure exactly what township he lives in, but I know where his house is. He does some of his own shopping, and sometimes just goes into a restaurant or bar by himself, or with a couple of other people. Everyone ignores him, which is why he likes to live there, I suspect.

Maybe he’s not so well-known now, but he’s lived there since the 90s.

I think Neil Young still lives on the farm in California that he bought back in the 60s.

Author Craig Johnson, who wrote the best selling Longmire books, lives in Ucross, WY, population 25.

A few years ago we visited a friend who lives nearby (in Paonia) and was surprised when she showed us the area where JC lived. It really is way the hell away from everything.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming to be exact. Here is a picture of his place.

Val Kilmer lives in New Mexico. He contemplated running for governor of the state at one time too, although I don’t think anything ever came of that.

Some of the places mentioned (Austin, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta) are entertainment towns in their own right, so it’s not surprising to me that celebrities live there. Some of the others are resort towns that cater to the rich and famous (Telluride, anyone?), so it’s not surprising to see some of them making their primary homes there either.

The ones living out in BFE are the ones where you don’t expect them.

What a dump. He doesn’t even have a pool!

Well, they are married. I wonder how they make it work…one is a journalist, the other is a host of shows with such hard-hitting exposes as “Which of My Three Step Brothers Fathered My Child?”

Homes in New Orleans:

Sandra Bullock
John Goodman
Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie
Nicholas Cage

There is probably one inside one of those buildings. The fucking wind never stops blowing in Wyoming. My brother lived in Jackson Hole for a couple years.

Plant a lawn? Wind blows the seeds and dirt away. He would wake up in the morning with 4 inches of snow on the ground, then come home after work and it is all gone. Did it melt? No, it just went that-a-way with the wind.

An outdoor pool might be useful a few days of the year.

Johnny Depp has places in France and owns an island in the Bahamas and lives in them all. I’m reading that he keeps a place in L.A., too, to maintain his U.S. citizenship and avoid paying taxes in both France and the U.S.

At one point Nicholas Cage had a ridiculous number of homes all over the world. I think his recent spate of film appearances was because he was short on cash as a result of all of that real estate speculation.

Until recently, Peter Frampton lived in suburban Cincinnati – his third wife was from that area, and he moved there after they married. They divorced several years ago, and he has since moved to Nashville.

Brett Favre lives in Sumrall, MS, near Hattiesburg (where he went to college), and about 90 miles from the even smaller town of Kiln, where he grew up.

Todd Rundgren lives in Kauai

Bob Dylan lives on a farm/ranch outside of a small town in Minnesota.

World famous cellist Mischa Maisky lives in Genval, a very small town in the middle of Belgium. I actually went to one of his concerts there about ten years ago. It was funny to think that he could basically have come to that nondescript venue on foot.

I also saw him ice-skating with his kids in Brussels a few years later.
