“Dr. No” is childish. It’s fun if you’re 12 years old (I know, because I saw it when I was 12), but not otherwise.
“From Russia With Love” is the best. The world doesn’t hang in the balance, just Bond’s future in it, but it’s still cool as hell.
When “Goldfinger” came out, I thought it really sucked. I mean, James Bond did just about diddley squat beyond getting into trouble. In that sense, it still does suck, but it’s got so many moments in it that are archetypes for the whole spy movie genre that it’s really a must see.
I didn’t like the Roger Moore ones much. Apparently, after “The Avengers” and some other stuff the tongue-in-cheek stuff seemed like a good idea. Well, it was, for “The Avengers.” Not so much for James Bond, though. I did like “The Man with the Golden Gun,” though. Christopher Lee did a good job, even if Moore didn’t.
The Brosnan films are good in their way. Very big (too big, probably, for a suave guy like Brosnan), good production, and the usual plot template. I prefer the more gritty feel of the early Connery movies, though.
My wife like Dalton; I didn’t. Forget about Lazenby.
I haven’t seen Daniel Craig’s efforts.
