I now have the definitive answer to this question. My sister in New Mexico sent me a clipping (hard copy, so I can’t post a link, unfortunately) from the Albuqerque Journal.

> [@](#):

> Chester Nez, 83, one of 29 original Navajo Code Talkers, said a Navajo blessing for the Red Sox in their second home game of the season on April 10. After that the Sox won seven of their next nine games, including 3 of 4 from the NY Yankees.
> …
> When the RS fell behind 3 - 0 in the ALCS, Nez seppted outside his home, faced east, and said another Navajo blessing for his new friends.

So there you have it.

As ESPN points out, it’s now the Yankees who are cursed! It’s a 4yr old curse and getting _nasty_. Since their last WS win, they’ve been bested by an expansion team and 3 wild cards!
