What I just noticed… in my subscriptions list, it still says \*\*rimshotgdansk \*\* started this thread, even though he’s since morphed into **Genghis Bob** … Odd. Moving right along… ---

I think the thread’s starter is stored as text, whereas a post’s poster is just stored as an ID. I would guess this is because there are many more posts, so storing an extra 30 characters times # of posts is impractical, but due to the forum front pages, the database needs to look up the name (and name only) of the poster starting a thread very often. ---

A few years ago my then-employer sent a bunch of us to St. Louis for about 4 months to straighten out a crisis. The only souvenier my boss brought back was a bumper sticker that read: “Hell is a city much like St. Louis.” Funny. Harsh, but funny. ---

Black bumper sticker with white lettering, very depressed-looking font: “Oh, crap. You’re gonna try and cheer me up now, aren’t you?” I really wish I could find that one. ---
