Not sure if this is the proper place for this question, but what can get you banned on the SDMB? I noticed that portajon was just banned, and I was curious what the reason was. I don’t know this person or anything about him/her, so I’m not wondering from an indignant “how can you” stance, just a curious “I wanna make sure I don’t do the same” stance. ---

Well, welcome to the SDMB. The propper place for this question would be in the “About This Message Board” forum, for “technical questions and concerns about the SDMB. This is also the place for practice posts.” As far as what gets you banned. Well, there’s some disclaimer with general rules to follow that you have to accept when you register. Everyone always quotes this when someone asks this question, but I am too ignorant to find that particular document (maybe I’ll go to the About This Message Board forum and ask where it can be found!). But basically, be nice to the moderators, and don’t be a jerk. 🙂 ---

Specifically, Portajon posted anti-Semitic rubbish and started arguments just to get a reaction. That latter bit is called “trolling” and it will get you banned. ---

Failure to send a $20 check each week to each and every one of the mods will get you banned. At least that’s what JillGat told me. I’ve been sending them faithfully ever since. ---

Also, being a sock puppet will get you banned. That’s what you are if you try to register a second handle, presumably to respond and agree to your main handle’s posts. Around here, you’re also considered a sock puppet if, after being banned, you re-register under a new handle. The moderators will find you out and kick you off pronto. This accounts for something we occasionally see, when a new poster who apparently has not had nearly enough time to do anything ban-worthy gets banned for no apparent reason. It’s only because they were banned before and reregistered. ---
