Had an extremely yummy roast beef dinner last night. So I have some left overs.

My husband always makes the gravy, and last night’s was especially tasty. Can’t say why, he made it the same as always, but it’s very yummy.

I got up today, read my emails and invited a friend for dinner. Walked the dog out to the grocers and picked up some bean sprouts to make Asian noodles with beef, bean sprouts, snow peas and bok choy, for dinner, for the three of us. Yum. ( Not enough left over beef for a repeat of the roast beef dinner, for three!)

When I got home and went to put the bean sprouts into the fridge I realized that, as good as my plan is, it’s kind of a waste of perfectly yummy gravy. Once the roast left overs are gone I’ll have no use for it at all! Seems a shame somehow.

I suppose I could scratch the Asian noodle plan, switch to hot roast beef sandwiches, (slice the beef thin, lay on fresh bread, smother with gravy, side of peas/vegetables), could probably stretch it out to fill three people.

But I got to wondering, if there were any other clever uses for this left over gravy that I hadn’t even considered.

What about meat loaf? I haven’t made that in a while and I do have some ground beef in the freezer. Maybe put a little gravy in and save the rest to pour over it, when served? It’s not how I usually make meatloaf, but it might work.

How about it? Got any suggestions for me? I’m all ears, do tell.

What am I missing here? Why aren’t you thinning out the gravy with some soy sauce and using that in your stir-fry on your noodles?

I made some meatball stroganoff with leftover pot roast gravy a while back. Stir some sour cream and a touch of dijon mustard into it, and pour over browned meatballs and sauteed mushrooms.

What a coincidence, we’re having pot roast for dinner tonight! 🙂

Oh, that stroganoff sounds good. You want to put some Worcestershire sauce in there, too.

Never considered putting it in my Asian noodles, won’t that make it more stroganoff-y, less Asian-ish. I’ll have to give that a try, but it won’t use up all the gravy, that’s for sure.

Sorry, not a fan of the poutine. I know, and I call myself a Canadian, the irony, it burns.

I’ve never really known how to make stroganoff, but I think I will remember the sour cream and dijon, and I love mushrooms.

Thank you for all your suggestions. Consider them taken on board. I will definitely be trying them all out, except the poutine, sorry.

That’d also work well with egg foo yung.

(I usually put leftover gravy on the dog food.)

Buy some pie crusts, chop up the remaining meat, toss frozen veggies and you have yourself a pot pie!

Toss it on some biscuits for an awesome breakfast? Might not be The Right Kind of gravy but it should still be good.

When I make shepard’s pie, if I have leftover gravy I pour it over the meat layer. Then put the potatoes on top of everything. Makes it extra good

Rice with gravy is one of my favorite things to eat. Add some fried up hamburger if you need more protein.
