The chunk-style salt water taffy (which is what my father used to bring home from Atlantic City) is long skinny rectangle. Tootsie rolls are round and a little uneven. Caramels are more square.
Huh, I went to school for years in Atlantic City, a block from the Boardwalk, and “long skinny rectangle” rings no bells in the SWT carillon of memory.
He used to buy a big tin of them that was obviously marketed at tourists.
