Oh my another one of those SD learning experiences where I find I am an “ignorati”. And all this time I thought I was making my sushi taste like I like. Stupid me!

That’s what I thought, too. And it may still be fine to do what you like with ordinary everyday sushi. But when a top-tier sushi chef creates really stellar productions, some deference to his many years of training and experience is advisable.

I learned this for the first time, many years ago, when I was at a really excellent sushi bar of a caliber I had never experienced before. I was doing my usual thing with the soy sauce when suddenly the chef came running over, yelling “too much soy! Too much soy!”. Since he was waving a very sharp sushi knife, I thought it wise to listen to what he had to say. 😉

This was also when I learned that a good sushi chef, as a convenience to his patrons and perhaps to prevent this sort of conflict, will often brush the right amount of soy sauce, if appropriate at all, over the top of the sushi before presenting it to the diner. In all seriousness, I learned a few things that night, and one of them was that truly fine sushi, unsurprisingly, tasted best the way a really good sushi chef prepared it, and not the way I had previously thought I liked it.

I looked into that, and sure some jerkness, but apparently the big issue is him bringing his dog on the set. He had a big head, no doubt.

AI says- _Pauley Perrette left NCIS primarily due to a reported falling out with co-star Mark Harmon, stemming from an incident where Harmon’s dog bit a crew member on set, causing significant tension behind the scenes; she publicly stated that she was “terrified” of Harmon and would not return to the show after leaving._

Yep. I like a bit too much (low sodium) soy sauce.

But yes, if going to a top chef place, _taste first._

What I hate, and will ask to have not put on is goop on top- hot sauce, mayo, whatever the hell crap that is. “you-yum sauce”? Anyway, I use wasabi/horseradish sparingly, but I admit, a too heavy hand with the soy. _De gustibus non est disputandum_

Ford used to fire or not hire people who salted food before tasting. I can see his point there.

I mean, you have to think a celebrity who is a literal murderer basically the thread winner. Just a little beyond “Matt LeBlanc snapped at a PA once.”

If we’re going by that standard, O.J. Simpson would certainly top Spector since he committed double murder (allegedly).

The odd thing about O.J. is that he was considered a nice guy in terms of his dealings with the general public which was why the charges of murder were so shocking to most people. I have to agree that murder and other horrific crimes place someone in a different category (unless they were also known for their consistent assholish behavior).

True. Have any other celebrities murdered anyone? Not counting people famous FOR being murderers or accidents. There was a football player whose name escapes me.

With some wife abusers/murderers outside their home they are “nice guys”, sweet and wonderful to everyone. Then they go home, close the door, close the blinds, and beat the ever living shit out of family members.

[Robert Blake](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Blake_(actor)#Murder_of_Bonny_Lee_Bakley) was another O.J. - acquitted of murder in the criminal trial, but found liable in the civil trial. His guilt is a bit more equivocal, but quite plausible.

In addition to Aaron Hernandez (already mentioned):

Actor Robert Blake very likely either directly murdered, or hired someone to murder, his then-wife, Bonnie Lee Bakley. Like Simpson, he was found not guilty in a criminal trial (due mostly to lack of forensic evidence), but found liable in a civil trial.

Musician Sid Vicious, of the Sex Pistols, likely stabbed to death his girlfriend, Nancy Spongen. He died of a heroin overdose before the trial.

Actor Gig Young apparently shot his fifth wife, to whom he had been married for three weeks, to death, before killing himself.

Wherever the fuck it came from, my grandmother loved that story and pulled it out whenever it was relevant. Even if it was on fries at a place where we ate dozens of times and the fries were always undersalted to my taste. Personally I would never want to work for a jackass who based decisions on such stupid things.

Gig Young’s is among the saddest stories of Hollywood. On screen he conveyed easy charm and wit with a mere glance or a raised eyebrow. He was a damn fine dramatic actor too, winning an Academy Award for 1969’s “They Shoot Horses Don’t They,” and stars in one of my favorite episodes of The Twilight Zone, the sentimental “Walking Distance.”

Given all that, we can’t begin to understand the inner demons that ultimately destroyed him. No motive for the murder/suicide was ever determined.

Apparently the only way to avoid offending people is to never put salt on your food. I’ve _also_ heard that people get offended if you _do_ check your food before salting it, because if you do, and put salt on it anyway, that implies that the chef didn’t put exactly the right amount of salt in the dish for the general public. By salting your food ahead of time, this supposedly shows your confidence that the chef prepared the dish to recipe, but you prefer it _even saltier than most people do_.
