Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. The joy the Beatles’ music has brought me has been life-changing.
I do apologize that apparently, despite my searching, I did not find my own thread from not that long ago. My bad entirely.
Martha Stewart, David Letterman, Bruce Springsteen. I know the world has turned against her but - Oprah. Number One: Ellen DeGeneres.
Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore. Carol Burnett. Valerie Harper. Jon Stewart. Brent Spiner.
I remember when Marilyn Monroe died. People responded with absolute disbelief and shock. It was inconceivable that anyone that beautiful should die so young.
One unlikely one will be Queen Elizabeth. I’m not a subject but she’s reigned since before I was born so as far as I’m concerned she’s been the Queen forever. It’ll be strange having Charles on the throne.
I suspect that I will cry like a baby when Stan Lee dies.
Two of my personal Grand Masters are gone, Isaac Asimov and Robert Heinlein, and that leaves one more: Harlan Ellison.
I remember watching her coronation on our little black-and-white TV in 1953. Yes, her death will affect me. And it’ll be really strange to see Charles on their money.
I’ll be pretty bummed when Alice Cooper and Alan Parsons go.
Sorry. I know you said “will”, but I also had to add to the chorus. I didn’t think that any celeb’s death would affect me, but when Terry Pratchett died - I learned via a thread in this forum - it took a couple of days for me to get over it. I was surprised at how hard it hit me.
Not exactly a celebrity in the show biz sense, but…Vin Scully.
Stan Lee, Chris Evans, Patrick Stewart, and Raquel Welch. Raquel Welch is such a super mega hot babe!
Howard Stern, if he dies before he retires.
I would have said Jon Stewart with the same caveat, but it looks like he’ll safely survive into retirement.
David Bowie for me too. He’s just always been there around and about in the soundtrack of my life.
He’s the only musician I’ve been to see live more than once, and the only one I’ve been bothered to travel to a different country to see live.
He’s the only artist I’ve bought the music of on vinyl, CD and digital download at the time of release.
It’ll be like someone removing a favourite armchair from my living room, if that makes any sense.
Also, Michael Caine. Not the greatest actor in the world, and has been in some shocking films, but I used to think he was the coolest man alive (as Harry Palmer).
Now that you mention it, holy cow, yes. Her Majesty has been nothing but classy and respectful her whole life. Her passing will be quite emotional for me.
ETA: She’s been on my money, both in the UK and Canada, for my entire life.
David Bowie and Shatner for me as well. Is it too late for them to sing Christmas songs together?
David Attenborough - who has been a fixture in my life for as long as I’ve owned a television, and brought the world to my lounge room.
A minor celebrity perhaps, Clive James, poet, writer, television reviewer, is dying and is doing it in a slow, self-reflective and dignified way that I find I cant look away from. That will be a sad day.
Not what I would call a celebrity but it will be Muhammad Ali.
He educated my fathers generation and those each side about so much. I think the effect still ripples through generations of family.
An extraordinary life.
Bobby Orr (childhood hero)
David Letterman
Neil Young
And when the last Beatle dies I’ll probably have to take a week off of work.
mmm
Sorry. I don’t know at this time. It will depend on who it is, how they die and at what age they die. A murder will be worse than a suicide will be worse than natural causes
