What celebrity death will affect you the most?

Queen Elizabeth II. When the books are opened on her reign, we may all be astounded.

Someone mentioned Elvis, saying the King will never die. Another king I will miss is Richard Petty, old number 43.

And if I may add another race driver–Sir Stirling Moss.

Betty White will hit me really hard.

Rod Stewart. I have loved his music forever.

Weirdly, Ted Turner. He was such an outsized figure in my youth, owning the Braves and Hawks and TBS, and then starting up CNN. The world will seem a duller place without him.

Among musicians, I’d say Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Jimmy Carter.

David Letterman.

Among actors in their twilight years, Dustin Hoffman and Robert Duvall.

Peter Dennis Blandford Townshend. I felt such a connection to him growing up, and I’ll be totally depressed when he’s gone.

I can picture a warm grin that doubles as a wry smirk of invincibility, and I doubt I’ll be able to do that after the death of Sean Connery.

Good one, and that makes me think of Michael Caine. They were so great together in The Man Who Would Be King.

Jane Goodall. Aliens could land on Earth and announce that they’re going to wipe out H. sapiens for being useless, mindless pathogens destroying this planet’s unique biodiversity, and I feel like as long as we can point to Jane Goodall as a counterexample, we get a reprieve.

I will probably cry when Bill Nye snuffs it.

Definitely, Betty White. Also, Julie Andrews and Stephen Sondheim.

And in spite of everything, Bill Cosby.

The ones I don’t expect…like Nigel Terry recently.

I couldn’t think of any until today.
Even though he hasn’t appeared in anything over a decade and he’s 81 years-old now, when I hear Gene Wilder has passed it will be a sad day.

Oh, wow, yeah. :frowning:

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was my first favorite movie, and it’s still easily in my top five.

The one that will make me the absolute most happy is OJ Simpson.

The ones I will cry themost over are Paul & Ringo, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen (you thought New Jersey went bonkers when Whitney died? You ain’t seen nothing yet).

He’ll always be Leo Bloom to me.

Jackie Chan. Such a life-loving personality and arguably the greatest stunt and martial arts ambassador ever.

Certainly some of the musicians who’s work I’ve enjoyed so much over the years; Neil Young, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Mick Jagger, Billy Gibbons.

Actors I’ve identified with, Robert Duval, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, Gene Hackman, Robert DeNiro, Sean Connery, Julie Andrews, Sam Elliott, Kirk Douglas.

Then there’s Letterman, Mohammed Ali, Roger Staubach, Nolan Ryan, Morley Safer…

Don Rickles. The man is a national treasure. How he lived this long–today is his birthday–is beyond me.

Dame Judy Dench passing will be difficult. When she’s being ‘hard’, ‘aloof’ or ‘exasperated’ with Bond’s antics she’s like my mum (although a bit older). She sounds like my mum, got the same cheeky glint in her eye, same mannerisms, same accent. When I see her playing M I want to give her a big hug

And Muhammed Ali is the biggest celebrity on the planet! And the nicest (me and my mum met him when I was a kid, what a patient and massive fella). He’s been ill for a long time, though, so his passing wouldn’t be as bad as Eastward who’s always been a rock.

Sorry about the late post. When I was reading this thread I could think of many celebrities that I would miss but I couln’t think of one that would actually affect me but tonight I realized who that would be for me. The answer is Tom Lehrer.

I have been entertained by him, I have learned from him. He has already affected me more than someone I haven’t met should.

I learned something from him tonight. I learned what he meant by the “take us to your lieder” joke so again, entertained, amused and educated 50 years after he wrote the song. Not bad Mr. Lehrer. Not bad at all.

Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Jon Stewart, Conan O’Brien, Tina Fey
