What celebrity deaths will make you most upset? - 2014 edition

Any death is a pretty sad occasion, even if you hardly knew the person while they were alive. I was really hurt when Tom Clancy died last year, especially since I only started reading his Jack Ryan series last year.

As a big music fan, I would be crushed if Damon Albarn, Michael Stipe, Trent Reznor, James Murphy, Alex Turner, Corey Taylor, Julian Casablancas. Dave Grohl, Josh Homme or Eminem died. I woukd say “Rock on guys!” but the Rock and Roll lifestyle is pretty reckless and that wouldn’t do much to save them. Maybe they should take a leaf out of Daniel O Donnell’s book haha. Maybe go to a spa, do yoga, eat healthily, stay in on week-nights, etc.
Heck, maybe all of the above should heed this advice!

Alan Rickman

John Cleese

Iggy Pop.

That was my first thought. Too damn young and to go out like he is… its heartbreaking.

I would be very upset if Stan Lee died. Same with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Lynda Carter, Kate Jackson, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Bob Newhart, Carol Burnett, Cheryl Ladd, Catherine Hicks, Tim Newhart, Patrick Stewart.

I guess I don’t get being upset by the death of a stranger who has made it well into their 80s like some have posted here. I would be saddened by the death of an older artist I enjoyed but it would not upset me. We all gotta go sometime. Its different when someone is tragically taken way before their time like it looks like will happen to Terry Pratchett.

Except for Abe Vigoda. Because that may be a sign of the Apocalypse.

Keith Richards is the first name that springs to mind, mostly because we’ve been joking about how the hell he’s still alive for decades now. One day he WILL die, and that will be a blow.

Leonard Nimoy - he’s had a hell of a life, but it will be sad to see him go. He’s 82 and has COPD, but I hope he’s still on this list in ten years.

Tom Baker. ‘Day of the Doctor’ reminded me how much I’ve valued him and his contributions. He is 80 now and seems to be in good health, but when he goes, it’s going to hurt.

The various minor stars of PBS and other shows I watched as a kid in the 1970s. When I hear that one of them has died, I always feel a twinge.

The celebrity deaths that have affected me the most in my life have been Jim Henson and Steve Irwin. When the former died, I had to pull off to the side of the road for a moment to digest it. The day Irwin passed, I went to the zoo and spent a day among the kangas.

ETA: Yes, Stan Lee will be a tough one, too.

Looking through the thread, I’ll be tempted to buy a British flag and fly it when Christopher Lee dies. Talk about a life well lived!

Oh golly! I wrote “Tim Newhart”, but meant “Tim Conway”.

Paul Simon’s death would hurt me quite a lot, as would Art Garfunkel’s. I hope they live forever.

Also Garrison Keilor. That voice! sigh

I’m reading his autobiography, What’s So Funny?, right now. Did you know it’s actually “Tom” Conway?
