They had Robert DeNiro…now, just get Dustin Hoffman and Jack Nicholson to get the trifecta!

Toby Young (although he was probably a lot wilder and funnier about a decade ago, and even now is too obscure to ever get it)

Jason Schwartzman, if he hasn’t done it already

and a few notable sports figures:

Chad Ocho Cinco/Ochocinco/Hachi Go (Bengals wide receiver)

Shaun White ("the Flying Tomato)

Jonny Weir

I have to second Johnny Weir. I really think he could be a hoot.
However, I orginally came in to suggest Jerry Lewis but I suppose he probably isn’t able to do something like SNL these days.

How about Cleese, Palin, Gilliam and Jones?

Bob Balaban is someone most people don’t know by name but he is very funny and clever and recognizable.

Craig Ferguson would be genius in my opinion.

> To the OP, you really need to do yourself a favor and find the original full 1992 show when Seinfeld hosted. I consider it to be the best single SNL episode ever (at least on par with Tom Hanks on his “5-timer” episode and any given Chistopher Walken episode). “Stand Up and Win” and “Elijah the Prophet” are both all-time classics from that show (if memory serves).

Just watched the Oz clip. OMG that was hilarious! I’m checking Google video which seems to have a few Seinfeld on SNL clips 😃

I just thought of an interesting one: Lorne Michaels. Let the man who created SNL host it. One sketch idea could be him stopping the sketch in the middle because it’s tanking, then redoing it in a better way. Though if that sketch isn’t the last one of the night, the audience may wonder why he’s not stopping more sketches when they fail! 😃

Satan. I’d like to see the Prince of Darkness host SNL and engage in a little light-hearted self-parody. I’m picturing some real hilarity in sketches based on his temptations of Eve and Jesus.

Woulda been better back when Dana Carvey had been on the show: he could have been a guest on Church Chat.

Actually, Satan already has [made](http://www.morethings.com/fan/saturday_night_live/jon_lovitz/mephistopheles_photo_gallery-09.htm) [several](http://snltranscripts.jt.org/93/93lsatan.phtml) [appearances](http://snltranscripts.jt.org/99/99edevil.phtml) on SNL—maybe enough for a “Best of Satan” special?

> Carol Burnett. In the early days of the show, Burnett is what they made a deliberate effort to get away from in their humor; I think she could hold her own with them!

She was my choice too. Of course what I’d _really_ like to see her do is one more episode of her old show where we catch up with Eunice, Mrs. Wiggins and the Mop Lady in old age (which might be depressing but with the right writing could be good), or Carol’s parody of recent movies. (I’d totally go to her house in New Mexico for ZOMBIELAND 2.)

* * *

Otherwise:

Niecy Nash (who isn’t that big but I. Love. Her., and she could do a wicked parody of CLEAN HOUSE).

Jim Parsons from _Big Bang Theory_ (though this is liable to happen since he’s on a current hit show).

Reba McEntire- just to see her interact with Kenan Thompson- I’d be embarassed to admit how much I laughed at his absolutely dead on imitation of [a man who found a wig in a dumpster as] her.

[Bo Burnham](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo_Burnham). He’s a kid but he’s a comic genius- his wordplay is on par with the best rappers and the best ‘Golden Era’ songwriters.

> When the NY Giants won the Superbowl a couple years ago, I thought SNL missed an opportunity to have Eli Manning host. Payton Manning already hosted when the Colts won and he was pretty funny (the skit with the basketball team getting a halftime peptalk from the coach in particulat), so it would be funny to have Payton come out for the monologue and start talking about how great it is to be in NY and hosting, etc etc, then start talking about how it was great to win the Superbowl. Eli can then come out and say that he already hosted and now it’s his turn. Payton can then make a whining aw come on kind of thing, then either Archie or their mom can tell him that it’s his brother’s turn, then Payton puts and stomps off the stage.

That would be awesome. I love the Mannings, and Peyton did a great job when he hosted (I love the United Way mock-commercial…Go sit in the porta-john! You suck!) While I don’t think that Eli has the same natural charisma as Peyton, I think it would still be funny.

Seconding: \*\*David Boreanaz \*\*and **Allyson Hannigan**.

What? No Eric Idle?

I think any (all?) of the Pythons would do a great job! If any of them were to do it single, I think Cleese would be the best. He’s got great recognition, can play both the looney and the straight man, and (aside from Idle, perhaps) probably the most in-tune with American comedic sensibilities.

ETA: And, of course, Betty White. Already joined the Facebook group to get her to host!

I’d love to see Dave Matthews host. I know his music isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but he’s always struck me as a funny SOB. More than most musicians.

His turn as Ozzy in [this](http://www.hulu.com/watch/110315/saturday-night-live-the-mellow-show) SNL skit was great, his sense of humor is the perfect SNL blend of [politics and fart jokes](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAHhVWyYbIM), and from the [stories](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIPQZA17pqg&feature=related) I’ve heard him tell he’s got pretty good comic timing.

I’m also all for Betty White hosting and am happy that they’re in talks.

Actually, Chevy Chase and Bill Murray returned to host the show before Murphy did. John Belushi also came back for a couple cameos after he left.

As for Murphy, he hasn’t been back since 1984. He hasn’t even shown up for the SNL anniversary shows.

As for Pythons, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, and Graham Chapman have all hosted at least once. John Cleese hasn’t hosted but did do a guest shot/cameo once.
