Lovely stuff! Their version of “Good King Wenceslas” is absolutely beautiful. ---

Twisted Sister’s and two MPs (4 songs total) from the 60s. One of these is jotas by two local guys (traditional folk songs but unrelated to anything “folk singers” would sing), the other one is by a priest from I-think-Peru. ---

I really don’t like Christmas music and avoid it like the plague. I do like Jonah Lewie “[Stop The Cavalry](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hVEdE0O5tA)”, which wasn’t supposed to be a Christmas song but became one due to one line in it. However, I recently bought “[Oh Holy Night](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_Q7AFys6bA)” by Jackie Evancho, as anything she sings is just great. Bought mainly for _[Panis Angelicus](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVcftko6O8k)_ and _[Pie Jesu](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a73yQBp1ous)_ though. ---

I have a few, but our record collection is the opposite of organized, and I’m too lazy to inventory them. But out of memory, I know we have: A Charlie Brown Christmas - Vince Guaraldi Trio [Jackson 5 Christmas Album](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackson_5_Christmas_Album) - Jackson 5 (Wow, searching that record made me realize it’s worth something. Gotta take better care of that one.) I’ve got a bunch of inherited compilations with artists like Perry Como and Nat King Cole (one is from [Firestone Tires](http://www.wqxr.org/story/258126-when-shopping-tires-meant-buying-christmas-album/)) and I think there’s a Brenda Lee record in there, but those above are the two that I actually listen to enough to be able to name. ---

LP’s include Joan Baez’s _Noel_, with musical arrangements by “PDQ Bach”–pure, traditional beauty that probably surprised some folks back then. And John Fahey’s first Christmas album. Plus Emmylou Harris–_Light of the Stable_. (I sometimes buy MP3’s of LP’s I love–hoping some of the money gets back to the creators.) _It’s Christmas, Man_ by Brave Combo. _Christmas the Cowboy Way_ by Riders in the Sky. _A Christmas Cornucopia_ by Annie Lenox. _Quality Street, A Seasonal Selection for the Entire Family_ by Nick Lowe. (new!) _The Bells of Dublin_ by the Chieftains. _The Big Christmas Box_–one of those cheapo compilations; haven’t heard the whole thing… _The Messiah_–I think a version is included in the Big Box, but my favorite is the 1976 version by Sir Neville Mariner & the orchestra & chorus of St Martin In The Fields. Almost “period”–definitely not Overblown Victorian. Need to check further–I think I’ve got Phil Spector’s compilation, etc… ---

My favorite is one called _An American Christmas_, by the Boston Camerata. Basically, the conductor of the orchestra thought that the rich American musical tradition of the past couple of centuries had been getting short shrift, and decided to showcase it with a Christmas album. Half the songs, I’d never heard of before, but they’re almost all beautiful, and very well-sung. Also, let’s see… _The Best of Christmas_, by Haven, which I’m really not wild about-- The song selection is good, but they’d be much better performed by someone with a modicum of talent. A various-artists album called _A Christmas Night_, that’s pretty good. _Christmas with Julie Andrews_, which is too short, but anything sung by Julie Andrews sounds good. _Light of the Stable_ by Emmylou Harris, though I prefer my bluegrass instrumental rather than vocal. Another various-artists called _Orchestral Christmas_, also pretty good. _The Russian State Chorus Celebrates Christmas_, which has good quality singing, but their accents result in some really weird pronunciations. _Sing We Christmas_, by Chanticleer, which seems to include every style of singing known to Man. Martina McBride’s _White Christmas_, another one I’m not too wild over (McBride really isn’t my style). And _Winter Solstice_, by John McCutcheon, which is rather growing on me lately (just finished listening to it). ---
